I stayed up all night trying to figure out why I was actually there.
It was a few weeks before something weird started going on.
The lady, which I soon learned was named- or called "Sister Raina", came into my room with big posters in her arms.
"What are those?" I perked up from my usual spot in the corners of the walls.
"...Art." Sister Raina said after a long pause.
When I heard the word "art" I imagined a picture of an ocean or a bustling city; not what it actually was.
Poster after poster of guys. Yes, men.
"I don't like that," I whispered. "It makes me feel uncomfortable."
"What's that?" She asked.
"I feel uncomfortable."
Sister Raina marched over to me. "You little swine. You really don't appreciate anything we do for you." She grabbed my cheeks and pinched.
"Um.. everything you do for me?! Like what, putting me in a straight jacket, locking me in this smelly, blue room, and- oh! Putting hideous masculine posters up for me to look at all day?!"
Then it hit me like a bus- I was in a conversion institute.
"Oh. My. God," I leaned against my wall, looking at Sister Raina. "You locked me in a conversion institute?!"
"In my defense, your parents brought you here."
"They wouldn't, you snake."
"Skylar! Listen to me!" She growled. "Your parents brought you here, you stay here, and then you get to learn to be a normal person!"

My stomach twisted. I felt tears well up behind my eyes.
"Honey- I'm sorry I snapped."
"Can I have some water?" I asked, ignoring her apology.
Raina got up, fixed her dress, and walked out of the room.
I peered out into the hospital. No one was walking- only Raina.

The only place I know other than this room, is the shower room. I only go there about once a month- twice if I'm lucky.
Raina came back in with a plastic cup. "Sorry that took so long."
"Can I have my, uh, arms available?" I asked politely.
"Oh, yes, sorry," she waddled over and undid my jacket.
The cold air smacked my sweaty arms. I stretched my arms above my head, then took a sip of water. I set the cup down and stood up.
I was in arms distance from Raina, so I slapped her across her face.
"What the?!" She yelled. "Skye! Stop!"
By that time, I was already trying to disable the lock. With my luck, it was already unlocked.
I was about to dart when Raina grabbed my ankle. I bent down and started to violently punch her. Her grip released and I ran.
I didn't know where I was going, but I booked it down the hall.
