"Lola, what's that?" she asked. "It's a bird, my dear! It's hurt!" Lola Paz answered. Celine ran, then stopped, and moved backwards so she wouldn't step on the struggling bird. Lola Paz carefully scooped it up, looked at it, and shook her head. "Can we take care of it at home, Lola?" Celine whispered. "Sure, sweetheart! You can take care of it while we're busy fixing other things. But remember, it's only temporary, Celine," Lola Paz said.

Celine was delighted holding yhe bird, and she looked for a good place to keep it safe. She found a clean box and lovingly put yhe bird down. She fed the bird through a tiny tube then set its broken leg and bandaged it. She touched its soft feathers gently. She felt like a true veterinarian. "What kind of bird is it, Lola?" she asked. "It's a painted bunting," Lola Paz answered. Lola Paz kept feeding the bird every day and Celine helped her. The bird grew bigger and more colorful, and soon light feathers grew on its body. Soon, it was pecking seeds out of Celine's hand. The bird was later on transferred to a cage by Lola Paz. "Don't feed it from your hand all the time," Lola Paz advised, "or it won't learn how to find seeds and insects on its own." While Lola Paz was unwrapping the bandage on the bird's leg, she asked "What will you call it, Celine? Give it a name, it's yours. You found it, after all."
