SpongeBob Bootleg

There are two variations to this story.

The first tells the tale of a group of teenage urban explorers who went exploring in an abandoned insane asylum. While digging through the litter bins they found a video cassette. (You know, those big massive chunky ones you used to get and slot into a TV. Boy, if they were brought out during class you knew it was going to be a good lesson. 90's and 00's kids will know what I'm talking about. Anyway, on with the story.)

The video cassette contained a SpongeBob bootleg video. Most of the video consists of random jumbles of colors, static, or just black screens. The audio seems to be a heavily distorted version of the audio from the original episode, with loud, droning buzzes occasionally interrupting it.

However, the most iconic image from this video is seen in a split second. It's one single still of SpongeBob, from the episode "dumped". (that one when Gary starts to hang out with Patrick more than SpongeBob, but it is revealed at the end that it was all because he had a cookie in his pocket. Stupid, I know.)

It was from the scene where he starts crying into the bottles of shampoo, begging Gary to come back to him (I'm 15 and that scene still gives me the feels). However there was something different about the image. SpongeBob had no mouth and his eyes were red.

Upon finding the tape mysterious things have happened to the group. Two have committed suicide, one went missing, one refuses to comment on the tape whatsoever, and one hastily agreed to give the tape to paranormal investigators when they interviewed him about itit. Strange, huh?

Some people claim to have seen SpongeBob blink towards the end of the video. But it could just be from staring at an image so long that your mind starts seeing things. Or could he actually have blinked, but too fast for some to see?

Here's the image, if you want to see it for yourself.

Also, the teenager that has gone missing was found dead in a dust bin a year later after the discovery of the tape

Anyways, onwards to the second variation.

This one has no solid fixed story, so far as I have researched. Videos online depict people claiming to have found the bootleg tape, but instead it shows something different. The above attached video is one of the most disturbing ones I found.

The cassette case has a cover image, in black and white, of somebody in a poorly made SpongeBob costume.

When booted into the TV, the video footage shows the same image on the cover, as well as other images of poorly made costumes in a slideshow format.

However, things get interesting later on, as it suddenly cuts to an animation. It looks like something Andywilson92 or EdukayFun would make. The episode is titled "SpongeBob and the cave", in the episode a poorly rendered SpongeBob runs around on a dark backdrop, entering and exploring a cave before a puppet of what is meant to be a fish suddenly appears and tries to...eat him or something? SpongeBob then runs straight through the camera, and you see every single one of his poorly rendered features.

Now, I'll be honest, I never researched anything more beyond that. That thing honestly gave me the heebie-jeebies.

Just...keep an eye on SpongeBob, because in the whole time I've looked at the picture (which is very little), he had never blinked.

Oh, and one last thing...when I downloaded that image, the file name was Blink.gif

Hmm...I wonder...
