Feeling the exhaustion getting to you? Wanting to pull an all-nighter? Looking for something to scare your friends with? Or are you just curious to research some spooky stuff? Whatever the purpose of your visit, this book will keep you up all night...
"Momo" is a sick and twisted "game" going around on WhatsApp. Nobody's sure who made it or why, but apparently it's actually caused the death of a 12 year old girl somewhere in the world.
According to the Computer Crime Investigation Unit in Tabasco, Mexico, the game started on Facebook where members were “challenged” to communicate with an unknown number.
The avatar used by Momo, shown above (it's pure nightmare fuel, I know. First time I saw it, I saw it every time I closed my eyes and I had trouble sleeping for a whole night. Ugh.) is an image of a woman with twisted features and bulging eyes. It has been traced to a work of Japanese artist Midori Hayashi, whose team specializes in special effects. (Apparently the model...statue... sculpture...thing is a personification of somebody.) Hayashi and her team are not associated with the game in any way.
The original statue for it has chicken legs. Here:

Officials have said it’s unclear how widespread the game is but claimed it was most likely a form of “baiting” used by criminals to steal data from people on the internet. It has been reported all over the world, including Mexico, Argentina, United States, France and Germany.
Not gonna lie, when I first saw the sculpture I honestly thought it was related maybe to some challenge or campaign promoting equality in beauty or fairness for those who are less fortunate with appearance or something like that. I legit thought it was a real person who had some kind of deformity or something.
Today, not much has been revealed about the game on the internet, except for the fact that it sends disturbing imagery and provokes suicidal thoughts via violent and explicit conversation.
So next time you boot up WhatsApp and get a request from a user names Momo...destroy the phone, or block her, just don't let her into your life. Stay safe.
