Plopping down in a seat after boarding the bus I looked out the window and sighed. It rains too much here, I thought this was supposed to be the sunshine state? Chasing Hearts by Breathe Carolina featuring Tyler Carter played softly through my new black ear buds. Mornings are gross and should not be a thing that happens. I leant my head against the bus window, not caring about how dirty it was and waited for someone to sit next to me or for the bus to leave the bus stop. The latter is much more preferable. I wish I had a car, that would make things a lot easier for me. No having to get up early to catch the bus and no dirty windows. I felt someone sit next to me and pull out my ear bud. I looked over to glare at the evil being who disturbed my doom and gloom. Sitting next to me was my good friend, Sergio, also known as a giant pain in my tush. "Breathe Carolina eh? Not your usual vibe." He commented with my right earbud in his own ear.
"It's mostly just because it's a really soft song." I shrugged, glancing out the window to watch the houses pass us as the bus had rolled out.
"Melly you need to start listening to heavier music. Like A Day To Remember or Of Mice & Men or Issues, you know Tyler Carter is the lead vocalist right?"
"Yes I know Sergio, you never stop talking about him. We both think he's hot and his music is cool and I do listen to Issues and occasionally A Day To Remember, please move on to another subject. Did you do the math homework?"
"See about that," he scratched his head, "I was practicing with Geo last night and we got carried away and completely forgot about it." He smiled shyly and I knew what he wanted right away.
"I regret becoming your friend sometimes, I'll let you copy it at lunch but this is the last time young man! Mr. Atkins already hates your guts don't give him more reason to."
He kissed my cheek, "Love you Melly!"
"Yeah, yeah now kindly give me my ear bud back asshole we're almost there." I sighed, I really need to go to sleep earlier because I'm already exhausted and school hasn't even started yet. Sergio gave me my ear bud and I rested my head on his shoulder. We act like a couple sometimes and enemies the next but we'll never be anything more than best friends.
When we got to school Sergio waved goodbye and walked over to his slightly edgier friends. I'm okay with him leaving me behind because before school is my time to take a light nap or read in my usual spot next to cafeteria.
I don't have many friends other than Sergio because I was a relatively quiet person. I didn't think talking was very important and many thought I was too stuck up to talk to anyone. They don't really care about me and I don't want to be annoying to someone who doesn't even like me in the first place.
Walking over to my usual corner I tripped and bumped into someone, shit. "Watch it fat ass!" Courtney Murphy snapped at me. I kept my head down low muttered a quiet apology before continuing on.
"Are you not even going to say sorry bitch?!" Courtney's best friend and demon sent from hell, Maggie Peterson screeched.
"I-I'm really sorry." I looked up at them.
"You better be bitch."
"Hey Courtney no need to start anything." Praise Jesus Sergio is here, I sent him a thankful look. He nodded and looked to Courtney, who might I add has been constantly eye fucking him since freshman year.
"Whatever." She flicked her hair over her shoulder and swiftly walked away with Maggie.
"Hey klutz you really need to stop making trouble where ever you go." Sergio messed up my hair in the most brotherly way possible.
"I get it I'm a bit of a rebel troublemaker Serg, don't try to hold me back because I'm out of control." I joked lightly.
"Stay safe, tonta." Sergio smiled and ran to his friends who were walking into the building we spend way too much of our time in. The bell had just rung for our 10 minute free time before class starts. I quickly walked to my locker as Let It Be by The Beatles played through my ear buds. I grabbed my lanyard from the front pocket of my backpack while walking. Lanyards were mandatory as they held our student IDs, there had been a bit of a security problem a few years back and now we have to be wearing our identification or else we'd get a detention. Each class had different colors; freshman had blue, sophomores had white, juniors (my class) had red and seniors had the mystical black lanyard.
