"Why is what I'm trying to do such a problem?" He asks after shutting the door behind us.
"You are not taking Liam from me for days on end." I cross my arms ready for this argument. "You don't get to pop up months later making demands."
"Pop up months later?" He asks looking at me annoyed and confused.
"Yes, months later Oliver. All of a sudden you want to be a 'father' all of a sudden it matters to you." I suck my teeth as loud as possible. "Where were you when I had Liam? When I went through postpartum? Oh, that's right you were fucking my sister." Sarcasm and bitterness dripping from every word.
"I was wrong for that and I'm sorry. Why can't I be involved to the extent I should be? Why can't I make things right now?" He asks leaning against the wall.
"Because you can't. You can't decide when you feel like being a parent. Or when you feel like caring. You hurt me but I won't let you hurt my son."
"Your right Honesty. But at least let me try, let me show you I'm serious." He sighs rubbing his face aggravated. "Can we meet in the middle somewhere? Let me take Liam for every other weekend." He says.
"No." I reply not liking the idea of leaving Liam that long with him.
"I'm not going to hurt him.I've watched him while you were at class or work and when I wasn't busy. I can take care of him perfectly fine. Why are you being so stubborn?" He yells at me.
"You can't just come and take him from me." I shake my head, I don't want him to take Liam every fiber in my being is saying that it's a bad idea.
"Please trust me Honesty, if I have to beg I will." He grabs my hands and squeezes tightly.
"I need to go talk to my sister." I walk out the door and down to my car heading to Harmonis place. She isn't here I stay around as long as possible before going home.
When I finally get back home Clarissa is up playing with Liam. "Harmoni wasn't home." I sit next to her on the floor in front of the couch.
"Is that what took you so long?" She asks placing Liam on the floor and he starts crawling towards his toys between us.
"I talked to Oliver." I say after a pause she sucks her teeth and looks at me.
"What does he have to say?" She asks and I tell her everything that was said from us both.
"Well I hate to say this but he's kinda right Honesty. He should take Liam some days give you a break." She shrugs looking down at Liam. "In my unpopular opinion, Liam has that right to know Oliver. And I'm happy that he told Harmoni."
"Your only happy because you like the idea of her feelings being hurt." I say under my breath making her roll her eyes.
"Yes, and no. I'm Liam's godmother I want nothing but the best for him. And him knowing Oliver is good." She rubs her hands over Liam's head she must have rebraided his hair while I was gone. "You can't keep him to yourself."
"But he's my baby." I pull Liam to me smothering his face in kisses making him laugh.
She eventually leaves and I spend the rest of my evening playing with Liam until my mom calls me. "Hello?" I answered dreading what she's going to say.
"Honesty Darla Marie why?" She snaps making me flinch even through the phone.
"Why what?" I ask feeding Liam.
"Why of all the people in the world you get pegant with your sister's boyfriend? What is wrong with you?" She says.
"Mommy it's not like that." I try to explain but she won't let me get a word in. One thing about my mom is Harmoni is her favorite, she has always been.
"I can't believe you Honesty. You need to apologize to your sister and hope she can trust you again. Because I wouldn't."
"Mom please listen." I put the spoon down to talk to her but she continued talking over me.
"Do you know how embarrassed I am? How heartbroken your sister is? She's been in her room crying all day. Sick as a dog." She says making me feel worse than I felt already. "Oughta be ashamed of yourself. I'm going to call you back tomorrow so we can discuss how YOU can make it better." She hangs up on me leaving me there stunned.
"Mama!" Liam slams his hand down on the high chair tray the spoon in his grip.
"I'm sorry sweetie." I take a deep breath before I finish feeding him. I get us both ready for bed.
I have a text from my dad asking if I'm okay. I call him and he answered on the first ring. "Dad, can I come to spend the night?" I ask.
"Of course we can talk because I already know your mother is going overboard." He says. I pack a bag for the next two days for both Liam and me before driving to Oliver's. I call him and ask if he's home.
"Yeah, why?" He asks in the back I can hear his tv playing.
"I'm spending the night at my dads can you take Liam?" I ask tapping the steering wheel ready to pull off.
"Yeah. Where are you?" He asks his voice picking up.
"Downstairs." I hang up and get out of the car to get Liam. He's half-asleep in his car seat, "I'm trying to be good to you. Everything I do I do because I love you okay?" I kiss his forehead as I take his car seat out.
When I turn around Oliver is walking out towards me. "He's sleep." I hand Liam in his car seat to Oliver. "Let me get his bag," I say going to the trunk and getting his diaper bag. I made sure to pack extra clothes and bottles and food. "If you need anything call me I'll be up here before you can hang up." I hand him the bag which he puts on his shoulder.
"Don't worry I got him." He jokes scratching the back of his neck.
"I'll try not to." I close the trunk and take a deep breath. "I'll be back tomorrow night," I tell him he nods his head. "Let me say bye one more time." I take Liam out of his car seat and squeeze him close.
"You're going to be gone one day Honesty relax." He takes Liam from me and puts him back in his car seat.
"Yeah okay." I still can't shake this feeling that this is a bad idea. Even after I pull away and drive to my dads everything in me is telling me to go back.
