Chapter Three

::Summer::

Summer knew that was an odd reply to give to anyone-even a stranger, like herself. What did he mean his name wasn't important? She was just about to say something, but alas, the bus had beaten her by nearly a second.

As the boy made his way to the bus, Summer following quickly behind him, Summer felt all the ogles and gapes that were directed to him. Of course people would stare at the hot new guy like that, Summer figured.

A boy Summer acknowledged as Austin Ellis, Kyle Comrey's-more known as Lucy Jones', the most popular and wealthiest girl in Tebetha High, boyfriend-best friend motioned him to sit beside him.

"Are you sure?" The boy who was left to stay nameless asked Austin with his charming accent.

Austin gave him a condescending nod, as if to tell him; you're cool enough to sit with me. And so, Mystery Boy-Summer figured that should be his nickname until she found out his real name-took a seat beside him.

Summer, on the other hand, was stuck to sit alone, in the farthest seat possible. . .

The ride to the school was as unpleasant as it always was. She tried to distract her mind with other thoughts other than Mystery Boy, but all she could do was think about him; his lopsided grin, his emerald eyes, his attractive figure, his shaggy black hair, his charming personality, his accent, his mysterious ignorance. . .everything. Summer was infatuated by the boy, that much she knew. It took the smallest of conversations to win over her heart.

When the bus came to an abrupt stop, Summer was the last to get out, for she was sitting in the very back seat of the bus. As she stepped out, she breathed in the breezy air and examined her surroundings. People were chatting amongst each other, informing them what they've done this summer. Some were listening to their iPod and tried to look for their lookers to place all their books in a tidy fashion. Others were making out with their girlfriends and boyfriends, oblivious at the fact that people were staring at them disgusted at the public display of affection. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and take pleasure in one another's company. Everyone, but Summer, that is. She didn't have a friend to indicate how boring and unmemorable her summer went, as it always did.

As she took everything in once more, she noticed a silver Volvo speeding to the parking lot of the school. Without even taking a second glance at the car, she automatically knew whom it belonged to-none other than Lucy Jones', the wealthiest and most popular girl at Tebetha High, of course. And sitting beside her, she could spot Kyle Comrey's presence. Lucy and Kyle were much of a cliché; the wealthy lacrosse captain dating the blond, equally as wealthy, school's head cheerleader. Summer always had the faintest of crushes on Kyle. He was beautiful, no one could deny that fact. He had black curly hair, kind and melting brown eyes, and an undeniable muscled and chiselled figure. His face was always plastered with a smug smirk on his face, as if he knew that he was hotter, cooler. . .better than everyone else. However, instead of it being a turn-off, it just attracted girls all the more. She only shared one conversation with Kyle. It happened on her first day of Freshman year. She was walking in the hallways, grasping her school books, as she tried to push through the students to reach her next class. Naturally, she fell and her knight in shining armour-Kyle-came to her rescue and picked up her books, while helping her up. After handing her back her books, he offered her the smallest of smiles. She wasn't even able to thank him because he left as quickly as he appeared. Ever since then, Summer was in love. She knew it was rather pathetic of her to be crushing on a boy like Kyle who would never give her the smallest bit of recognition, but she couldn't help it. Everything about Kyle Comrey made Summer swoon admiringly.

Austin Ellis-Kyle's best friend and the boy who offered Mystery Boy a seat beside him in the bus-made his way to Kyle, a smirk etched on his face as he saw who he arrived with-Lucy Jones. Mystery Boy, Summer realized, was still beside Austin, not giving Lucy or Kyle any attention, while he walked with Austin. It was rather strange seeing Mystery Boy not giving any acknowledgment to Lucy or Kyle; Austin must have hinted by the looks on his face that he was making his way to important people at this school. Besides, who wouldn't acknowledge Lucy Jones' presence? She was as beautiful as a goddess. Any boy would die to be facing her as close as Mystery Boy was.

Summer heard Austin introducing the two to Mystery Boy. Kyle gave him a nod, his smirk never leaving his features, as Mystery Boy did the same. From the corner of her eye, she could spot Lucy Jones, fix her gaze on him, a predator smirk on her face, as if she was going to attack her prey-Mystery Boy-even though she already had the perfect boyfriend who was standing right beside her.

At that look, Summer's heart couldn't help but jolt in jealousy. Once again, Lucy Jones will have something Summer longed for-another boy who liked her. Evidently, Kyle and Austin didn't catch the look; if they did, they'd probably would have started a scene right there and then. Mystery Boy-as oblivious as he made himself seem to be-knew very well what game Lucy Jones was trying to play. However, he just shrugged it off; Summer couldn't help but smile triumphantly at his reaction to it all.

"So what's your name again?" Lucy asked Mystery Boy, batting her eyelashes flirtatiously. "Austin didn't tell us."

At that, Summer heard Austin mutter, "That's because he didn't tell me either." while looking annoyed at Lucy's accusation. Summer then spotted Kyle look up at Mystery Boy, as if he was curious to know his name as well as the other two.

Summer couldn't help but to stay frozen a few feet apart from the group. She longed to hear Mystery Boy finally reveal her name. However, a part of her didn't want him to give up his name to them either. As much as the curiosity of his name killed her, she didn't want Lucy to win the satisfaction of knowing his name when he bluntly rejected Summer's same question a few minutes before.

But before she could hear his answer, the first bell rang, and Summer swiftly and rapidly made herself to her locker to get her books for first period. It was the first day of Senior Year and she was already late.
