A cold breeze flies around my shoulders, pushing my hair a little back. I can smell the green grass that hasn't been mowed for a while. My head tilts a little to listen to birds chirping. I feel...

"AREUM!"

Exhausted.

A clap in front of me wakes me from my daydream. My head drops out of my hand palm making me hit the table with my face.

"This is the second time you've been dreaming during school hours!" My mom shouts at me. She grabs the ruler and gestures to hit me, but when the ruler wants to smash into my skin, she stops it.

I sigh as she starts scolding me. To enjoy these moments a little more I mimic her mouth movements. After 10 minutes of horror I reply. "Yes eomma, I got it. I'll try to pay attention."

"Your math homework." She hastily puts up her hand. "Now!"

While moving my books around to find it, I can't help to let out an annoyed groan. In my eyecorner I can see her raising an eyebrow, but I don't care.

A fake exaggerated smile appears on my face as soon as I hand in the book with pages falling out of it.

She shakes her head while pressing her jaw shut. As she throws the book open on the study table a loud noice can be heard.

"What is this?" She points at a questionmark.

"I didn't understand it and gave up after trying." My voice faded as I speak the last words.

Her hands rest on her hips and her lips purse together while looking at her left, annoyed. Silence is the only thing to be heard in the enormous room.

"This is not the first time something happens like this. You know how big this problem is?"

My neutral face changes into a frown. "Mom hajima.."

Ignoring my words she continues. "You need to be able to run your father's business, but you can't even solve a math question! Everything will be about numbers, yet you don't think it's necessary to know your math! How are you suppose to run his business? Huh? You ungrateful piece of nothing!"

Her body tenses up. A flow of tears lay on the edge of her face. "You don't care about anything! You're so dissapointing and useless! Why can't you be more like your father?!"

"HAJIMA!" I shout while standing up.

She takes a step towards me and grabs my arm. It turns red since her grip was too harsh. I slightly look at it to check if it's not bleeding. Without me noticing it she raises her hand in the air. She wants to hit me, but as soon as she hears the maid, she stops.

"I'll put this right here ma'am."

Her hand releases my burning red skin and I decide to make a run for it. My footsteps can be heard through the entire house, but it's not loud enough to cover up my mom's shouting. "AREUM-AH!"

My feet touch the white tiles outside the gigantic, isolated house. I keep running into the garden that never ends. My worries get blown away with the wind who is not quick enough to catch up with my speed. A pain shoots into my leg making me drop onto the fresh grass. I laugh besides the fact that my lungs are dying.

After a while of closing my eyes and thinking about life, I get up. There is one tree that had always been special. I wrap my palm firmly around the branch that's thick enough to hold my body weight. My feet support me as I push my body in the tree. From the highest point you can look straight into the house. I spot my mother throwing the math papers at my father.

"Aish this child, do you have any idea how long it took for me to clean that dress?" A voice says.

My body spins around so fast till the point I almost fall out of the old tree.

I quickly get out of the tree without injuring myself too much. "Mianhae Joongsoo."

She grabs my hand and turns me around. "Omo, your dress! How can you be so clumsy!" The ahjumma smacks the back of my head. She doesn't pay much attentiont to me saying it hurt.

She balances the laundry basket on her hip and continues walking me inside. "You better change quickly, it's almost dinnertime."

I nodd. "Gamsahamnida."

Barely touching the ground, I run to my room and into my warderobe. I grab the first dress I see and change into it.

I rest my hand on the doorknob and slightly turn it to open the door with a sound that can only be heard by mice. I want to walk to the staircase, but my mother's voice catches my attention. Leaning my back against the wall, I began to slide towards her words.

Her back is facing me. "Yeobo, do you see this?" She points at her hair. "It's turning grey because of this kid! I already called a math tutor, he'll arrive tomorrow."

"Looks like you already finished the job." My dad replies.

A tutor? This is hilarious. As if I'm going to listen to a 50 year old man!

I silently walk downstairs and sit down at the table. In the reflection of my glass I can see my parents walking down the staircase. They each take place at the ends of the table, creating metres of space between us.

My mom hits the glass gently with her knife, twice. "Areum, you're getting a tutor for math."

The food is brought to the table and a servant fills my plate for me. I bow my head as a 'thanks' before starting to eat.

My mother cleares her throat.

"I honestly wouldn't care even if my life depended on it."

My father balds his fist and slams it on the table. "Your life does depend on it!"

"Keep believing that, pabo."
