A girl walks along the Thames in London, 1793. She pauses on the bridge and leans over the side.

As she is leaning over the edge looking into the murky water, a figure comes up behind her.

Startled she turns around. 'Please.' she whispers, as he pushes her over the rail and into the freezing, menacing depths.

Chapter 1. 1793

'I can't believe it. You absolute idiots. How could you just let her turn up like that. I told you to dispose of the body, but what do you do, you go and leave it in the river for anyone to find it washed up on the river bank. You are complete imbeciles. You can't even follow a simple order.'
