Silently standing in front of the large pothole cutting into the island, you felt a uneasiness rise in your gut. This place was definitely no ordinary one, you could feel it. However, that didn't seem to deter the captain one bit, who instead grabbed ahold of your wrist to pull you along towards the cave wordlessly, even under your mild protest. "H-Hey, Rat, I dont think this is a good idea, this place reeks of evil-" You begin to attempt reasoning with the blond man, are however cut off by his irritated growling near instantly, fearing he might haul you off a cliff if you kept up your nagging.
As you enter the hollow cavity in the razor edged rock formation, the sharp whistling of the wind greets you, together with a wave of unpleasant putrid scent blowing into your face. It made you retch and your eyes water, that pungent redolence of decaying fish, saltwater, rotting algae, and something you could only describe as the fragrance of death itself. "C-Captain, where the hell are we going?" You finally stammer fearfully in order to break the painstaking silence, inclined to do so because you had spotted, what you presumably to be a human skull lurking in the shadows.
The lanky man turns to you with a bitter expression in his mimic, his face however clearly wan, grabbing you wrists so tightly he was sure to bruise it. "Listen Jack, one more of those questions n' I swear by Davy Jones i'm gonna cut ya bloody tongue out. Jus' shut ya damn mouth n' don't open it until we're outta this place." Jamie demands with a voice so baleful it makes your blood run cold. And so you begrudgingly comply, mutely trying to keep up with his quick pace as you purse your lips shut, he really had a swift step for someone with a pegleg.
He only ceases his striding when you reach the dead end of the tunnel which peaks in a especially large stone cavern, one wall of the cave torn open in order to be smoothly intertwine with the oceans tides. The dusky hole in the cliffs was merely lit by shallow daylight that reached in from the opening, furnished with nothing but alluvial objects ranging from half-rotten shelves filled with ancient, moldy books that have probably been left to decay in the salty winds, to fragile tables crammed full to the brim with obscure bibelots from the depths of the oceans floor. And everywhere there scurried about copious amounts of crayfish.
Startled by the bizarre scene, you curiously glance around, you had never seen something so surreal. Well, Tortuga hadn't been especially exotic, so no wonder really. The captain meanwhile unerringly makes his way to the verge of the vast tidepools that partially were engulfed by the oceans tides, still not speaking a words as he retrieved a lustrous, golden coin from his pocket, just to flip it into the undulate waves with a rehearsed flip of the hand.
You curiously join him at the fringe of the cave, eyes following the shiny coin as it was swallowed whole by the dark abyss of the water below, seemingly sinking to endless depths out of your sight. You wanted to ask why he did that, but decided you would rather not lose your tongue over a coin. Suddenly however, the waves cease to roll into the cave, a few air bubbles emerging from the now otherwise perfectly still water. You wince back from the margin a few steps, seemingly to the captains amusement, who remains at his exact spot wearing a cheeky grin.
"No need t' be scared Jacky, she doesn't bite if ya dont anger her." Jamie chirps knowingly, only making you stumble back further. Who now?! And when suddenly a delicate hand reaches out of the turquoise water in order to grab onto the rocky edge leading into the cave, you let out a fearful wheeze, shaking vigorously by now. You couldn't even muster the guts to ask what "she" was supposed to be, merely left staring in disbelief as a ghostly pale, slick female elegantly pulled herself out of the tides, in her finned hands, the now algae covered gold coin.
The women seemed staggeringly tall when she stood up straight, lissome, long limbs attached to her sleek torso, and yet she was rather femininely built; every curve perfectly smooth and proportional, her supple chest merely covered by the long strands of sea green kelp that seemingly made up her hair. She was stunningly beautiful, even with her glistening, fish-like, slimy skin; her features were quintessential.
