Melissa woke up early the next morning. She and Chris had the day off and they talked about wanting to do something fun as a family. They had exchanged ideas throughout the night and finally settled on a few activities they could do during the day. It was nearly the end of August so the weather would be warm that day which helped them pick what to do.
Melissa was in the kitchen making sandwiches they would all eat for lunch. She had the idea of everyone going on a picnic and Chris thought it was a great idea. She made multiple sandwiches and put them all in their own bags before getting out the fruit and cutting it up. She made sure to cut up extra of the watermelon and strawberries since they were the girls' favorite.
By the time Amelia tiredly walked into the kitchen, Melissa had almost everything ready for the day. Amelia reached up and snagged a strawberry off the counter before Melissa could gather them all in the bag. Melissa chuckled to herself and turned to her daughter.
"There will be plenty later today." She explained, causing Amelia to look at her weird.
"You, Leah, Dad, and I are going to go out and have a fun day. We're going to do a lot of different things as soon as your father gets out of bed.""I'll go wake him," Amelia announces before heading up the stairs. Melissa sighs before starting to make Amelia's breakfast, knowing she'll be hungry when she comes back down. She puts the waffles in the toaster and pushes the lever down. She turns back to the food and packs it into the larger bag she put the sandwiches in.
Chris and Amelia come down the stairs, hand in hand. Chris walks up to his wife and gives her a kiss on the cheek. He glances at the bag and realizes how full it is.
"Did you finish everything already?" He asks. Melissa shakes her head.
"I still need to put the drinks in there." She admits, pointing to the fridge.
"How long have you been up?" Chris questions.
"Since around 6:30," Melissa admits shrugging.
"You should've slept later," Chris explains.
"I know I should have, it's just difficult okay?" Melissa says, giving Amelia her waffles. "I have to wake up Leah, finish whatever I didn't."
...
"Girls, sit down and eat. After you're done eating you can play at the park." Melissa instructs as the two girls reluctantly sit down.
"I don't want to eat," Leah says.
"I know you don't, but I don't want you saying you're hungry in twenty minutes because you didn't eat," Melissa explains, giving the two girls their sandwiches. Chris opens the fruit container and sets it in front of them.
"Did you guys like roller skating?" Melissa asks.
"I did. It was really fun." Amelia says, biting into her sandwich.
"I couldn't balance very well," Leah admits. The whole time Melissa had to hold Leah's hand in order for her to be able the skate. Melissa didn't mind but Leah wanted to be like her sister and skate by herself.
"That's okay. It was your first time." Melissa reassures her. "When I went skating for the first time, Grandma had to hold my hand too."
The family continued to eat and talked about random things. Amelia and Leah rushed to finish eating so they could play on the playground. Once they finished, they both begged Melissa to let them go. She agreed and they both ran off leaving Chris and Melissa alone.
"When are we going to tell people?" Chris asks.
Melissa sighs, "I don't know. Soon I would assume. I just don't know how I would do it."
"What did you do last time?" Chris questions gently.
"Brent blurted it out to both our families at a barbecue," Melissa explains.
"Do you want me to just blurt it out on set tomorrow?" Chris asks.
"Not really. I saw this picture a few days ago where the girls could help announce it." Melissa explains.
"Alright. We should look into it." Chris says. Melissa looks out at the girls and sees Amelia trying to teach Leah to do the monkey bars. She loved how well the girls got along and that she didn't have to deal with sibling rivalry. Of course, they have their moments, but they normally solve them in a few minutes and go back to playing together.
They left shortly after and went to the water park. They couldn't do some things because the girls weren't tall enough but they made sure to do everything they could. They played on the splash pad, went down smaller slides, and got into a water gun fight. The girls kept laughing uncontrollably as they and Melissa hanged up on Chris and sprayed him countless times. He ended up having to surrender and girls all high-fived each other.
"Girls rule!" Amelia announced.
"You only won because there was three of you and one of me. When Mom has a boy the teams are going to fairer." Chris argued, crossing his arms.
"I don't think so. Mom is going to have a girl and then you're really going down." Leah says. Chris scoffed causing Melissa to laugh.
"You're so childish." Melissa teased.
"But that's why you love me," Chris says, kissing Melissa's cheek.
"Ew! Get a room," Amelia exclaims, covering her eyes. Leah copies her sister and Melissa and Chris laughs at the girls. Chris grabs his water gun and squirts Amelia. She gasps before grabbing her's and squirting him back. Soon, it's parents versus kids and surprisingly the kids were winning.
After Melissa and Chris surrender, they decide to leave. The girls were getting hungry and therefore, crabby. They get changed and head out to the car. They grab something to eat and go home. Both girls fall asleep on the way home, so Chris and Melissa carefully carried them to their rooms. Once the girls are settled in their rooms, Chris and Melissa go to theirs.
"You know that today is probably going to be all over the internet tomorrow because of paparazzi, right?" Chris asks, climbing into bed.
"Yeah, but I don't care. Today was one of the best days I've had in a long time." Melissa answers, snuggling into Chris.
"Night love," Chris says, kissing the top of Melissa's head.
"Night."
