She was sitting in the corner of the lunchroom when I noticed her. I stared at her for a while, curious as to who she was, when Calum nudged me.

"Ash what are you staring at?" He sounded annoyed, probably because I wasn't listening to whatever he was talking about. I kind of felt bad because I was basically Calums only friend besides Michael. Calum was...fragile. He wasn't very aware of his surroundings most of the time, which meant he only saw the good in people.

"Who is that?" I asked pointing to the girl. Michael spun around and Calum moved his head to try and see around Michael.

The girl was absolutely beautiful. She had dark brown hair that flowed down her back and bright green eyes that slowly searched the cafeteria. She was drumming her fingers on the table but you could barely see her hands because they got lost in her sweatshirt. Her chin was resting in her other hand with her elbow propped up on the table. She wasn't eating anything, which I found odd, she only had a half empty water bottle that sat in front of her.

Michael sighed. "That" he pointed to her "is Elizabeth Sanders"

I cocked my head at her as Michael turned around. "I have never once heard her speak and she sits in the back of every class. I think she has...problems."

"Problems?" I questioned

"Well when I was younger, like in Kindergarden, we became best friends but she gradually got more distant and she...changed. And then one day she just snapped and we never talked again." Calum interrupted just as Michael opened his mouth.

"You guys were friends?" I asked. I just moved here at the beginning of the year so I didn't know much about anyone.

"Yup" Calum said, his normal smile had faded and he stared at her. Michael rolled his eyes just as someone sat next to her. He was tall with blonde quiffed hair and bright blue eyes. She winced when he slammed his tray down.

"And him?" I asked nodding in his direction.

"Luke Hemmings" Michael said as he glanced over his shoulder. "Apparently that's her brother but he looks nothing like her"

"I didn't even know he was her brother until a couple years ago" Calum said, cinching his eyebrows.

"Luke Hemmings is a polar opposite of that girl" Michael scoffed.

"She's-" I started but Michael cut me off.

"Hot? yeah she is" he glanced back at her "but she's not my type" I rolled my eyes and Calum smirked.

"Beautiful" I said as I stared at her again. It looked like Luke was trying to talk to her and he smiled softly at her. She returned the smile as she looked up at him. I saw him point to a group of people at a table nearby. Aw yes the 'popular' table. Every school had one, no matter how old you were, you just had to learn to stay away from them. She shook her head and tugged at the ends of her sweatshirt, burying her hands in the sleeves. Luke sighed and smiled sadly as he said something else to her. She nodded in return and then he walked away, leaving her alone again.

"Don't tell me you like her Ashton?" Michael said as he glared at me.

"Not yet." I replied

"What does that mean? Why are you staring at her?"

"I'm interested" I giggled. Michael rolled his eyes and Calum smiled at me. I wasn't sure why Calum was friends with Michael because he was kind of an ass. Ok well actually I did know, he was oblivious to the fact, but still. I could tolerate Michael, because he wasn't all that bad once you got to know him, but I wasn't very fond of him.

"I want to talk to her" I said as I began to stand up. Calum grabbed my wrist, and Michel shook his head.

"No don't do that" he said.

"Why not?" I questioned

"She'll freak out. She barely even talks to the teachers." I slowly sat back down and continued to stare at her when she noticed me staring and our eyes locked. I smiled at her and she blushed as she quickly turned away and tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear. Which only made me smile wider.
