1978
The year of glamour, disco, fashion, EVERYTHING. It seemed as if that year was the greatest year.
I'm Jane Markuss, I'm a fashion designer and I live in a loft in New York City with my wonderful boyfriend , Christopher Kiles. He writes for some singers like Carly Simon, Prince, and co-writes for the Bee-Gees! I love my life at this point and it seems it can only get better.
" Alright babe, I'll see you after work today and we can celebrate our one year anniversary over dinner at Cisco's." I said playing with Christopher's tie.
" Sounds great honey. Have a good day." He said giving me a light peck on the lips. " You too." I say with a smile.
I got into a taxi and drove to work at 30 Rockefeller Plaza. My office is on the 12th floor.
" Good morning Jane." My co-worker, Leslie says handing me a bagel.
" Morning, Leslie. Hey did you get the news on the 54 party tonight ? I have been working on Diana's outfit and I think it is PER-fect!" I say chewing my bagel. My boss told me that some of the workers who have worked on Diana Ross's show outfits get to go to the Studio 54 party tonight and I am just about finished with hers.
" I don't know, we haven't heard anything from him. Hopefully everything goes well!" Leslie said crossing her fingers.
" I know! Especially since I told Chris we were going to Cisco's for dinner and I would much rather go to 54!"
" Wouldn't we all!" Leslie echoed.
I chucked as I walked into my office only to see my chair facing the window with a puff of smoke rising from the back.
" Ahh, Jane." The chair spun around to reveal my boss, Mr.Laviago .
" Oh hello, Mr.Laviago." I say anxiously.
" Jane." He said putting out his cigarette into my ash tray. I don't smoke, each office just has one." Jane I am very impressed with your Diana sketch. But I would like you to show me the textures on them and how they would work."
" Oh yes of course sir!" I say scrambling for my sketch.
" Love the colors." He said lighting another cigarette.
" Thank you. Uhm here is where the navy velvet would be and the gemstones encrusted at the bottom cuff and her white under shirt would be a button down because it makes a good medium and the buttons would be silver with a diamond shine-"
" Love it Jane. Now would you like to go to the party tonight with a guest?"
" Like to? Sir I'd love to!!"
" Ahem yes, well. You need to dress your FINEST. Bianca Jagger, Andy Worhol, Liza Minelli, and many other fashionable icons will be there and you wouldn't want to stand out negatively would you?"
" Of course not sir."
" Alright, well have a good night."
" Thank you!" I say squeezing my tickets with joy." I got them!" I yelled through the office.
I took my taxi and came home. I flew straight to my bedroom and dialed Christopher's office.
" Hello?"
" Chris, it's Jane !" I say barely containing my excitement.
" Oh hi sweet heart!"
" Ok , Chris, I GOT THE 54 TICKETS!!!" I yelled.
" Oh honey that's fantastic."
" So you gonna go with me? We can go outfit shopping at 5 because I figured-."
He cut me off." Babe, I have to stay at the office tonight. I'm sorry. I want to come more than anything."
I let out a sigh of sadness." Oh no worries, no worries."
" But that doesn't mean you shouldn't because I know this means a lot. So you should go." He said.
" Alright, thanks sweetie . I appreciate that. I probably won't be long. I'll be back at maybe 12 or so."
Boy was I wrong.
