Chapter One- "I see coming here hasn't affected your sarcasm."
After grabbing my carry-one, I headed to Luggage Claim to look for my Uncle Keith and Aunt Christiana. It only took me about a minute to find them along with my other two bags. How'd they know which bags were mine? I have no clue.
"Elena? Lena Bean! How's my favorite, ever-so-wonderful niece?"
I was engulfed into a bone-crushing hug before I could answer. Yup, That was my Aunt Tia for you. She is a petite woman in her early 30's. Her long black hair was pulled into a messy bun. Even when she has two teenage kids, she acts like one herself. She doesn't usually "dress to impress" , so she is wearing her signature comfy jeans and an old band T-shirt.
"Ma! She can't answer you if she can't breathe. Let go. "
As soon as Aunt Tia let go, I dramatically took a deep breath of air and tackled my cousin, Safyre (Pronounced: Sapphire), into a hug. "Air! I can breathe! Thank you!" We instantly broke down into laughter when Aunt Tia rolled her eyes and mumbled something about how dramatic we teens are.
Safyre is two years years older than me, making her 17. She acquired her mom's golden eyes and her dad's chocolate brown hair. She would be going to the same school as me and her brother, Ryker, but she asked to go to a private boarding school for a chance for a college scholarship. Right now, she's taking a break from school, so she could see me.
"Hey, girl! How you holding up?" With the way she asked, I knew she was referring to the recent incident.
I froze slightly before answering, "Uh, good. I've been better though, " I said, thinking of the days before the accident.
"I see..., " she trailed off, leaving an awkward silence.
I looked around to see Uncle Keith putting my luggage in the truck of the car. He was a pretty tall man, who, like Aunt Tia, looked young for his age. I'm not saying that 35 is old at all, but yeah. He had a strong built and looked intimidating, because of his dark chocolate hair and piercing green eyes.
Ryker was also pretty tall and muscular and looked like his dad, but with Aunt Tia's raven black hair and Uncle Keith's green eyes. The funny thing is, that he and his sister look nothing alike, so to anyone who just met them they would of guessed that they we not related, at all. We're going to same school. Both of us are sophomores.
He turned 16 last month and has definitely changed since the lat time I saw him. Before, he was awkward and a little clumsy, but after the growth spurt I'm pretty sure he moved up in the high school food chain.
"Lena! Long time no see! What's up?" he said, while picking me up and spinning in circles. When he was done spinning, he finally put me down.
As soon as my feet touched the ground I stumbled. "Woah, " I said getting back up on my feet. "Pssh... Anything above eye level. What about you? '' I asked sarcastically.
"I see coming here hasn't affected your sarcasm, " he replied, laughing, "You know. The usual. The sky, ceiling, space. Nothing new," he said and ruffled my hair.
I pushed him away and punched his arm jokingly, " Don't touch my hair, " I mock threatened. My hand stung from when I punched him. "Dang, boy! You got buff! What the heck happen?"
"I work out. You know. Being hot is what I do," he said while flexing.
Safyre snorted, while I couldn't stop myself from laughing slightly. "Yeah right, bro."
