It's the Trivial Things: Asuma Sarutobi x reader

Reader POV

"If you three don't cooperate with each other in the training exercises, then how will you be able to become successful ninja?" I said irritated as my group of genin weren't fully paying attention to their ninja training.

"(Y/N)-sensei, we've been training all morning! Can't we get a break once and a while?" Whined Aiko who happens to be one of the clumsiest on the team ( I know the names for the genin aren't canon, but don't worry).

"Yeah (Y/N)-sensei, I'm stumped, it's like you want us to die or something! Inderai, Aiko, and I are exhausted..." Exclaimed Chiro as he threw himself to the ground.

"Okay, okay. I'll give you a lunch break since you all seem like you need it. Be back here in an hour, no more, no less. I mean it." I said as I too needed something to eat.

"Thank you sensei, we shall see you in an hour!" They all screamed as they ran away, probably to get some ramen.

It's crazy how I got here. I mean I'm one of the youngest jonin in the Hidden Leaf Village and yet I have a team of genin. I'm blessed to say that my hard work has paid off. This is my first year as a sensei and I'm hoping this group ends up being really successful. They all have special assets and I know they can combine them with teamwork, but I know it's going to take a lot of work. Kids will be kids and there's no way to maintain them all the time.

I was too lost in thought sitting on the training grounds that I didn't hear footsteps approach from behind me...

"Hey (Y/N), lost in thought or what?"

I turned around to see Asuma... Asuma Sarutobi, my best friend and the man I admire the most...

"Oh h-hey Asuma, you startled me. And yeah I guess I was. Just thinking about my genin and how much they've progressed." I responded shyly. Asuma has always had this effect on me, but I know I'm too young for him, I mean I'm only 20 years old and I know he wouldn't date someone much younger than him. Plus he's already with Kurenai, so what chance do I have?

"Oh that team of yours I see, well with you being a great jonin and all, I know they'll be just fine," Asuma chuckled as he scratched the back of his neck.

"I sure hope so haha, um they're on a lunch break, so I guess I'll see them in an hour or so..." I said.

"Doesn't that mean you're on a lunch break too? I mean if you want, let's go get some lunch ourselves? It's on me today." Asuma asked.

"O-oh yeah sure, I would love to haha..." I responded shyly. Really? "I would love to.." come on (Y/N) you really don't know how to keep it to yourself do you?

"Great let's go!" Asuma said excitedly.

As Asuma and I walk to Ichiraku Ramen, I notice that he seems nervous and out of character; he's trying to hold something in, so I decide to ask him what's up...

"You alright?" I asked concerned.

"Y-yeah, I mean why wouldn't I be? I'm about to go eat lunch with my best friend haha..." he said a bit nervous. Right I forget... best friends. That's all we'll ever be.

"Just making sure, you seem really out of it today." I said as I made my remark.

"Don't worry about it, it's just missions have been stressful and you know life isn't always easy to accommodate to..." he replied.
