i sat on the chair in the large room full of people. i sipped the beer in my red solo cup (you've seen movies) before i cringed at the taste.
i need to stop drinking this. it's horrible. i took another sip anyway.
my friend ditched me for some guy at this party i came to for her. im the designated driver so i can't get wasted.
remembering im the designated driver i set down the cup and stood to get snacks and water.
i made my through the crowd of people drunkenly dancing to blaring music. i got into the surprisingly empty kitchen and grabbed a cup. i drank tap water because this isn't my house, i don't want to be snooping in other people's stuff, and im not a preppy rich girl who can't drink tap water.
i grabbed a second cup and filled it with the lays chips that were in a bowl, barely touched.
to get away from the loud, obnoxious music and loud, obnoxious people i went outside.
i saw a boy with curly, dark hair sitting on the steps, smoking. at hearing my appearance he put out the cigarette by pressing it on the cement and stepping on it. he turned and i saw his millions of freckles and slightly chapped, pink lips.
"hi, sorry, ill go back inside-"
"no, no, it's fine. it's nice to have company once in a while." he gave a half smile.
i smiled back before sitting in the spot next to him, placing down my chips and drinking my water.
"i-im finn." he said, trying to start a conversation.
i looked at him, examining his features once again. "y/n."
i could tell he was studying my features as well and then he realized this isn't really the way humans interact with each other and he coughed uncomfortably and looked at the ground.
i smiled at his awkwardness and looked at the sky. it was pitch black despite the faint clouds and maybe three stars.
"beautiful." finn said.
i looked at him to see him looking at me.
"what?" i asked.
"um, the... uh. the sky. i-it's beautiful." he stuttered, a faint pink on his cheeks. he wasn't a very good liar but i smiled nonetheless.
"yeah. it really is."
"woo!! c'mon y/n!! let's get going! let's get this party started!!"
i looked behind me to see my friend drunk as hell.
she/he stumbled down the stairs and made her way to my car.
"i don't really like my friends." i said to finn.
"yeah, i don't like your friends either."
"hey, um... could i have your phone number?"
his face turned red and he nodded. i smiled and handed him my phone with the call app on screen.
he typed in a number and handed it back.
"thanks. ill text you... sometime. and stop smoking, it's horrible."
he chuckled. "yeah, ill try."
i quickly walked to my friend to make sure she didn't die.
