**flashback**
Ratchet watched as Optimus turned towards the ground bridge controls. He nearly burst into tears that second, but composed himself when he saw Smokescreen watching the medic's face intently.
Ratchet took a deep breath and thought. He thought harder than he had in a very long time. Harder than he had thought when Bumblebee and Smokescreen first had reverted to sparklings. Harder than he had when he learned that the sparklings were not whole.
He thought so hard that he missed the entire first half of Optimus' speech.
He pressed his fingertips to his temples and scrunched his optics closed. His helm began to hurt with the effort. A tear leaked out of his left optic.
And then it hit him.
His optics opened as quickly as they had closed.
He snuck to Smokescreen's side and picked him up. The medic whispered into the little mech's audio receptor: "I need you to put this on Optimus." He handed a tiny portable camera to the sparkling.
Smokescreen kept a determined look on his face as he nodded in understanding. He was placed gently on the ground. The little bot didn't even wait for Optimus to finish to hug him.
He had already forgotten about his mission, even with its powerful statement. But as his little hand pressed against the hard surface that was the Prime's right leg, he felt something between his fingers and blue metal.
The camera!
He fumbled a little with the tiny device, but managed to adhere it to the surface.
His mission was complete, and was soon after forgotten as each member of Team Prime followed his lead, hugging their leader.
Smokescreen smiled to himself. If there was anyone who could single-handedly stand against a Decepticon, it was Optimus, his hero.
