Chapter three

As soon as we got outside of the doors my body reeled back from shock. The suns glare was much brighter than I remembered. None the less we kept moving.
I knew the two men were following us because I could hear their heavy footsteps. "Where are we going!" Kate yelled. Not answering right away I hopped into her front seat slamming the door shut. As soon as she closed her door, I hit the lock button. 'Click' Kate turned to face me. But before she said anything I released a sigh. "We gotta get away from them" I could tell she was about to question me. "They aren't in the right crowd of people."
I watched as she pulled her seat belt on and turned to me with a face of adventure. "Well?" she paused for dramatic effect. "Step on the gas cause they're right there." I followed her finger and she wasn't wrong.
Stepping on the gas we pulled right out in front of them. I could've run over their feet if I wanted to. Speeding out of the parking lot Kate turned up the radio. And this time I didn't mind. The adrenaline that was pumping through my veins dulled my senses.
Rolling down the window, Kate put half her body through the widow and yelled as loud as she could. As she slid back in we both broke out in a laughing fit. "They are right behind us she warned. And with that I stepped on the gas petal as far as it could go. We wove through allies and the city streets. As soon as I was positive we lost them we pulled onto the road that led to the apartment building.
These are the moments that I love to have with Kate. She may seem like a girly girl. But no girly girl would be involved in a getaway.
Pulling into the oh so familiar parking lot I parked in the same spot as before and took the key out of the ignition. Letting out a small huff of air I opened the door and stepped out. Kate fell into step with me as I started to walk toward the building.
Pulling out my apartment key I shoved it into the lock. "Let's have some celebratory lemonade" Kate exclaimed, clearly still excited from the getaway. "Yeah but your making it." I laughed out.
Before closing the door I made a quick check of the hallway. Deeming it safe I closed the door. Switching each of my beautiful locks I made my way to the kitchen. "Are you done admiring your locks?" she teased.
"I'm not admiring them I'm simply...showing my appreciation." I exclaimed with a huff as I sat on the island counter. "Choosing a different word doesn't change the facts" the force in which she used to point the wooden spoon at me was so great that it almost flung out of her hands.
The cold glass felt refreshing to the touch. As I took a sip my sense of taste lit up. The sweet taste of the sugar and the sour twinge of lemon was just perfect. The concoction was absolutely perfect.
But as I was mid sip of my savory adventure a loud knock came from the door. Now I was pissed. Nobody disturbs me and my lemonade. "Who is it" Kate asked kind of confused. "I don't know but they're gonna get a scolding for disturbing me and my lemonade." Sliding the stool away from the counter. I made my way to the door.
Getting on my tippy toes I looked through the peep hole. Falling over I landed with a crash. "What's going on? Who is at the door?" I looked at the door and quickly stood up composing myself.
Clicking the buzzer for the lobby I waited for the lady at the counter to respond. "Mandy what do you need?" her voice was kind of cheery. "Did you let two...good looking guys up to my apartment?" I even heard the truth behind my words. "Yes dear, bah bye."
Checking to make sure all my locks were set I yelled through the door. "Go away you murdering phsyco!!" for extra effect I kicked the door. Turning around with a smug smile, I came face to face with Kate. "Answer the door or something bad is gonna happen"
As I started to roll my eyes my hearing caught onto the few words coming through the door. "Fine then the doors coming down!" a loud gasp left my mouth as I turned to face the door.
Crack! Thud! Bang!
My door! My door was now face down in front of my feet. "Close your mouth or you'll catch flies" as his smug tone filled my ears my fingers grasped the small piece of lock which was now cutting through my hand.
My breathing became shallow as I huffed in and out. My anger was at its high now. I was no longer in control of my emotions. Before I knew it the cold bloody metal was flying through the air and hit Xavier in the head.
I didn't stay for the reaction because I was currently stomping off into my room at the end of the hallway. Once I was behind the safety of my door, pain started to flood my senses. Quickly I made my way to the sink so I could wash the nasty gash.
There was a knocking at my door followed by a voice I didn't want to hear. "I didn't know those locks were special to you" he sounded regretful, but I don't believe it. Ignoring him I finished wrapping up my palm. "Please... let me in... I need to know if you're ok"
If I didn't leave now he'd probably brake these locks as well. Searching the room I spotted the window. An idea popped into my mind. Swiftly my hands pushed the window open. Stepping out my feet touched the cold metal of the fire escape.
My shoes. Augh! They are in the kitchen. Turning around I saw Xavier standing in the door way. "Shit" I whispered under my breath. With a mocking smile I waved. "Bye!" my voice followed me over the edge of the fire escape.
I had jumped.
I'm not stupid though. I knew there was an awning below the fire escape. Fawoomph. I landed on the soft fabric of the red awning. Looking up I saw Xavier with a look of relief. As I sat up I notice him climbing down the ladder. Quickly I slid off the top and made a run for it. The park was just across the street. I was almost there. So close. But I stopped in my tracks.
"Andy!" the name rang through my ears. I haven't been called that in so long. A warm streak went down my cheek. Then another. And another. "Andy please...I just want to talk to you" his voice was so close to me. His shadow covered mine completely.
I couldn't move. That name brought back memories. Memories I tried to suppress. I didn't want to remember them. His hand gripped my shoulders gently. Turning me to face his chest. "Andy... you need to stop running away."
With my face buried in his chest I accepted the comfort his arms brought when wrapped tightly around me. "Andy" this time I realized what he had started calling me, and I hated that name. I didn't want to hear it ever again. I was angry now. "That's not my name" I huffed under my breath. "Wha..." he didn't finish.
"That's not my name!" I shouted. I placed my hands onto his chest and pushed myself away from him. Backing up slowly. One step after another. Gradually adding speed. "This isn't right" I wasn't particularly talking to anyone but myself. "This is wrong" I stared at the ground. Now looking up, I stared into his eyes. "I have a boyfriend" his expression morphed into anger from confusion. I jumped when he let out a possessive growl.
"Maybe" I stopped. "Maybe if you came sooner than this would be so different." Before he could reply I started again. "You should have come when I needed you." He knew that was true but he wasn't gonna let it go. "Well if you didn't run away in the first place then this would have never happened!" his voice was deep and full of the intent of blaming me.
He wasn't wrong but he was trying to force the blame on me rather than excepting that it was his fault to. "Your right." I had tears in my eyes by now. "I...I shouldn't have run...away...but you could...have followed Me." I gasped between my sobs. "I'm not gonna run this time but you" I took a deep breath. "You're going to leave, you're going to go and not come back."
I turned around and started to walk back to my apartment. After a few steps I stopped. "You're too late this time." With that said I kept on walking.
"Wait! ..."
