CHAPTER TWO - NICE TO MEET YOU

Aster watched a vexed Chao Wei-Ting speak to a young lady behind the front counter, with his hands flying in frustrated gestures. Their conversation was so rapid that even if she could speak Mandarin, Aster wouldn't have been to keep up. Instead, she started to look around the front of the office that they had suddenly detoured to after Wei-ting received a call.

In the left corner from the door was a waiting area of chairs around a coffee table, laden with stacks of magazines and newspapers. Posters from completed productions hung on the wall. Behind the main counter was another lady, who was currently on the phone.

"I'm sorry Ms Taylor" she turned hearing Chao Wei-ting addressing her

"but something has come up." Aster finished his sentence, smiling trying to put him at ease as he looked hassled enough. He nodded, before turning to signal to the young woman he had been previously talking to.

"This is Lucy, Junior Assistant and Head Receptionist. Her English is very good." Wei-ting told Aster as the young woman came around to their side of the counter.

"Hello" Lucy greeted her

"Hey, I'm Aster. Please to meet you" Aster stuck her hand out for a handshake. Lucy smiled meekly before taking her hand.

With the introductions over, Lucy placed a hand on Chao Wei-ting's arm and spoke to him with gentle assurance then pushed him away towards the rest of the office. His eyes shifted between the two women for a moment, then with a short bow, he briskly walked around the desk corner and through the passageway.

Once he was gone from sight, a pearl of laughter rang out of Lucy as she turned back Aster.

"I'm sorry, my uncle gets so flustered when he's stressed." Lucy smiled fondly at the thought then proceeded to point to where she had been sitting behind the front counter when they had entered the office.

"That's my desk, and that's Miss Chen's. She is our main receptionist, but she speaks very little English," Lucy explained. Aster nodded to show that she understood.
Lucy's head tilted slightly as her eyes examined Aster's face.

"I could give you a tour now, or we could have some coffee?" Lucy softly asked after a moment.

"My jet-lag must be starting to show." Aster replied sheepishly while scratching the back of her neck, "I'd love a coffee"

"come on" Lucy giggled.

Aster followed Lucy to a common room, thinking she was going to like this meek but bubbly girl for her kindness and laughter.

As they made themselves coffees, Lucy explained that a lot of staff made their lunches using the appliances that were available in the kitchen, and she pointed out the bathroom so Aster knew where to find it later.

"Seeming no one is here why don't we sit in your office?" Lucy suggested. Aster was surprised but agreed. She hadn't expected to get her own office instead she had been prepared to slot into any small spot that was available. Lucy opened the door but waited for Aster to enter first.

Aster could not read the nameplate on the door, but she could read the one that sat front centre of the desk.

"This is Andy's office?!" Aster spluttered while Lucy giggled again.
