Tiny Spark Inside

I had Alice to come to breakfast this morning, all she seemed to respond to was orders now. Eliza said that when she was given an order a slight bit of a mind came back, just enough to understand what was being said to her. It seems she doesn't know her own name anymore though, she doesn't react to it. She also hasn't spoken since her eyes went black. I tried ordering her to speak but it seems that she can't understand what we're asking her to do. I came into the dining hall and see Alice sitting at the table while Patty gives her some food. Seeing me enter she hurries away to fetch my food. Sitting down I watch Alice from chair at the head of the table. She's just sitting there staring off into space. "Come sit closer to me." I order her. There is no need of her being so far away, Eliza and I are the only other people here right now. The first thing Eliza had me do was send away my whores. She said we'd never get Alice back if the pain didn't stop. I had also ordered that she wasn't to be touched anymore by any of my men or friends. Since this I hadn't felt any pain either which meant Eliza must have been right about Alice being my mate. I just hoped we could bring her back. As Alice sat down next to me I got my first good long hard look at her. She did seem to be stunningly beautiful, except for her newly dark and cold eyes. I reach over and touch her arm, she doesn't even look in my direction. As Patty brings me my food she picks up Alice's plate and puts it back in front her again. Eliza finally joins us and I'm just about to greet her when her eyes narrow at Alice. "Patty go make some tomato soup for Alice please, just warm not hot." I start to ask whats wrong when she explains, "She isn't eating, she doesn't want to either. She hasn't eaten in weeks because she's hoping to die from starvation. She'd rather die than live in the pain she's been feeling." "I thought there was nothing left but a shell?" I ask, disheartened that my mate was considering such a thing. Patty brought out the soup and Eliza force fed it to Alice. I couldn't watch, it was too painful. "It's good news though" Eliza said, reading my mood. "It means there has to be a tiny bit of her in here somewhere" she continued. That lightened my mood a bit, a little bit of her was better than her being completely gone. "I'm going to ask about her, maybe if we find some of her interests we can spark her back with them." Eliza says after she finishes feeding Alice. "Alice. You're safe now, you know that right? No one is going to hurt you anymore." I keep talking to her trying to comfort her but with no success. Eliza returns but she doesn't look too pleased. "The only thing I could find out was that she MIGHT like animals." she sighed. "Well lets go pet the animals at the shelter then." I say. As we lead Alice to the car I notice she doesn't even move of her own accord anymore. At least I won't have to worry about her trying to run away I think, chuckling sadly. I watch her in the mirror the whole drive and she never moves a muscle. Pulling up to the animal shelter I get out and open Alice's door. I take her hand and lead her inside with Eliza behind us. Inside the worker just looks at use as he explains the order we must visit the animals in. When he gets closer he just stares at Alice, "are you sure she won't upset the animals" he asks looking at her black eyes. I ignore him and lead Alice into the cat room. Just as I'm going inside I feel a pain on my arm and look over to see him trying to pull Alice away from the door. I snarl and Eliza rushes over to the man and yanks him away. Inside there are many cats meowing for attention. I watch Alice closely as she walks next to me. When we reach a cage full of 8 week old kittens her head turns to look at them. My heart skips a beat to see her move. I open the cage and take the kittens out, setting them on the floor. Alice immediately joins them on the floor and is petting them. I feel my heart warm at the sight of her holding the little kittens. Then the door swings and I turn to see Eliza and the worker walk through. Eliza looks overjoyed at Alice's interactions with the kittens but the worker looks upset. "You can't just let kittens run wild on the floor." he starts. I walk over to him, giving him my most terrifying gaze and Eliza joins me. He seems to shrink about three feet. I turn back around to but to my horror Alice isn't there. I didn't think she had it in her to run away. I go through the nearest door but it just leads to a hallway of more doors. I can feel a pain in my chest, the first thing she did on her own was run away. Just then I hear the sound of soft giggling through a door down the hall. Rushing over I turn the handle to see Alice on the floor with about fifteen dogs of all sizes on top of her licking her face. Some of the dogs notice me and run over to sniff me and Alice sits up, wrapping her arms around a husky sitting on her lap. I notice two other dogs are still glued to her too, a rottweiler and a German Shepard. the worker follows me and comes in too. He starts grabbing dogs and putting them back in their cages. Soon only the three on Alice are left. "let go of those dogs, your in big trouble little lady." He growls at her. Before I can snap his neck for addressing my mate like that he touches her again and all three dogs go nuts. They snap at him and growling at him back him into a corner. "We'll be taking those dogs with us." I decide. It would be good for Alice to have animals around since they clearly brought some of her back and there was the added bonus that they wouldn't let another man touch her. I offer her my hand to help her up and to my surprise she accepts and pulls herself up. The dogs just come over and smell me and I'm pleased that they seem to know that she's mine. Leading Alice and the dogs out I find Eliza and we leave. The dogs sit in the back with Alice and this time she seems to pay attention to where we're going. I stop at a pet store and Alice gets out on her own, the dogs following her. I turn to Alice and say to her, "Pick out anything you want for the dogs, I'll go get food for them." at first I don't think she understands but she picks up a basket and walks right over to the dog toys. I walk over and look at the dog food selection. There are three large dogs so I grab five bags of large breed food and a pallet of wet food. Walking over to the counter I set it down and look for Alice and the dogs. I don't see them in the dog section anymore. Feeling panicky I walk around the store until I see her. She found the pet section and is watching the fish. "Alice" I call out. The dogs turns but she doesn't. One comes over to me and that she notices. Turning around to face me I see she has filled two baskets with stuff. She walks back over to me and hands them to me to inspect. I see the items she's chosen as I place them on the counter: six dog bowls, three spiked black leather collars, three coloured leather collars with gems, three different kinds of leashes with three of each kind, three face harnesses, pig ears, cow hooves, training treats and just about one of every toy they had on the shelf. I was surprised that she got everything we needed and nothing else. I expected her to have a bunny in here too. Just as the person at the counter finished ringing everything through I felt a tug on my arm. Surprised I turned to see Alice pointing to a display case of tags with a sign that said fifteen minute engravings. I smiled at her and had the man open the case and she quickly picked out the three she liked best. I wrote down my contact information for the back of the tags and she reached over and picked up the pen. Writing very slowly she named each of the dogs: Misty- the husky, Max- the German Sheppard and ruby- the rottie. As we waited for the tags I watched Alice teaching the dogs to sit when she snapped her fingers and I got a plan for what we would do tomorrow. Finally the tags finished and we went home. I smiled as I watched her playing with the dogs all night. She wasn't back yet but at least she interacted with something again. I just wish it was me, I felt a pang of jealousy as she kissed Max's head.
