Lucifer's POV
Alice's kick hadn't hurt me as much as it surprised me. I had want to sit and talk for a bit, to learn more about who she was, but clearly she had been scared by something I said or did. By the time I had regained my senses She was already outside getting in my car. Everyone had strict orders not to touch her so I wasn't surprised that she made it so far. I was surprised that no one had seen which way she had went. The first thing I did was get an alert put out everywhere, with a special hotline for people to report seeing her. I was glad she had purple hair now, few people outside of the cities would have that, making her stand out. I had a witch cast a spell on the hotline so only people who really saw her could call. I also added that people were not to stop her but rather to giver her anything she asked for, I'd pay for anything that helped keep her safe and alive.
The first call had been from an army supply store where she had taken supplies for being in the wild. As I went over the list of what she had taken I knew I had to find her fast, she wouldn't last long with just this. I got supplies of my own and set off, determined to find her. I could smell her scent faintly, up until a river where it disappeared. I tried calling out "Alice" a few times but there was no answer. I hadn't really expected to hear a reply but I thought I might hear her take off at my voice. She must be further away then. I got in the water and traveled down, trying to find where she had gotten out. I finally found a place where she might have gotten out. Sniffing around I thought I smelt the dead remains of a fire. Yes over there, at least she had managed that. I was worried sick that when I did find her it would be her body that I found.
I couldn't seem to catch up with her, even though I didn't stop to eat or sleep. It took longer to figure out where she went, and she often crossed bodies of water to confuse me. I had received another call of a sighting of her and was relieved. A dead person couldn't go get supplies. And she was better equipped now. Still she had managed to lose me again and this time a terrible storm was coming.
Something was coming through the mate bond, Alice was either sick or injured. I needed to find her fast. There was a storm raging on and I couldn't smell her anymore. I felt a slight pull in one direction and decided to go with my instincts. In the distance I can see a cliff-face. Alice had made camp in a cave once before so maybe she had done so again. I increased my pace and soon I saw some books and an arrow outside the entrance and I knew this had to it, those were all things she had gotten at the army store. "Alice?" I called but got no answer. I went in, the things outside could only mean one of two things. Either she wanted me to find her, which meant she must be in a bad way, or it was a trap. Still she was human and I doubted she knew how to kill me or would even try. Is that a fire up ahead? Getting closer I see Alice laying next to a burning fire, face damp with fever. She must have gotten something from being out here. I couldn't control my anger at myself, if I hadn't scared her she wouldn't be sick. I picked her up and called one of my witches. With this storm the only way to get Alice out of here would be magic. I felt a slight tug in my gut as I was teleported back to the castle, where I had Eliza and Patty summon a doctor. Alice was muttering in her fevered state and she seemed to calling for me. "I'm here, your safe now Alice." I tell her, taking her hand in my own. She settles down a bit more and I brush the purple hair out of her eyes and kiss her forehead. The warm tingles accompany our every touch, reassuring me that she was still alive and herself.
The doctor had given Alice something and she seemed much better. "She just needs rest and some good hearty meals now." he said on his way out. How could she have been so careless? Tainted water, the doctor had announced to us. Alice had gotten iodine at both places, why hadn't she used it? Most likely she was too worried with escaping me to ensure her own safety. I stayed by her side all night, unable to move in case she worsened and the doctor needed to be re-summoned. Her hand started to grip mine back and, looking up I saw Alice's eyes were slowly opening. "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to scare you Alice." I apologize right away. She blinks, then says "I knew you'd find me in time." I can't help but let out a nervous laugh. "You set up at the entrance of the cave played a role in that." I told her. She stays silent for a time before asking, "Any chance of Patty bringing me some soup?" I get up to go place her request in the kitchen and as I pass through her doorway I hear her whisper softly, "Thank you."
