Chapter Two Kefira
"Ah, crap!" Kefira's foot hit the empty box, making it fly across the room and hitting the leg of Marie's bed. Kefira frowned, fixing the strap of her bag across her chest. Kefira fixed the collar on her white school dress shirt, letting out a heaved sigh.
Kefira sat down on her bed, which still had boxes and unhung clothes thrown across it. She pulled her foot up to tie the black converse that she wore. She looked at the clock that was on the hardwood floor and leaned against the slightly yellow colored wall.
School started in an hour. Kefira let out a groan, she pushed herself from her bed and jogged out of her room. Her fist hitting the wall above the outlet for the lights to turn off. She slid down the railing to the downstairs where the smell of dust and cinnamon floated through her nose.
Kefira dodged the Used History books' shelves. At the door was Marie Vasper with her arms crossed and a frown on her face. She was wearing the same uniform that Kefira wore. The white collared dress shirt on the breast pocket, there was Wellington's coat of arms the dark green pythons circling the light blue shield with a golden lion roaring under the python's tails was the phrase: United, Unmoving.
Marie crossed her arms she was about as tall as Kefira was. She had dark caramel skin and big curly dark, chocolate brown hair that fell slightly over her shoulders. She had a button nose and small mouth, her eyes were a shade lighter than her hair. Marie turned around, her small backpack was filled to the brim with locker decorations and a map of Wellington.
Kefira gave her a smile, Marie had been waiting ten minutes, though she had already gotten up before six o'clock that morning. Marie rolled her eyes, she turned around and opened the door. The small bell rang above their heads as Marie walked out.
"We're going to be late." Marie said, she glared Kefira, who opted to ignore it. She looked at her friend who still had crossed arms and a frown on her face.
"It's an hour before school starts, then orientation, then the rest of is just a tour, then we get to leave early." Kefira said back, she looked at windows of the stores they passed as they walked.
"That doesn't mean we still have to be late." Marie let out a huff and continued to walk. Kefira rolled her eyes, her step slowed as she saw a sale on fireseeds, she was promptly pulled on her arm from the window.
"What?" She looked over her shoulder at Marie who gave her a glare. "I was just looking."
"We've only lived there for a week, you're not burning down our apartment." Kefira glared at Marie, who glared back.
"Why does everyone believe I destroy everything I touch?"
"Because you do."
"That a load of bull—" A blow of a whistle made the two girls stop at the edge of the street. A police officer stood in the middle of the intersection, a floating stop and go sign next to him. He held both his hands up as he motioned for Kefira and Marie to stop.
"You want to go to Sunny Side?" Marie turned around with pursed lips. She crossed her arms, a piece of her loose hair fell in front of her eye. Kefira licked her lips, she gave Marie a smile. "I promise you, we won't be late to school."
"You let your stomach decide too many choices for you." Marie rolled her eyes, a small smile beginning to grow on her face. Kefira hugged her friend's side, the police officer motioned for them to cross.
