It was lonely without Layne being around. The place was so quiet. Almost too quiet. Jerry had watched the clock all day waiting for 3:00 to come around.
There was nothing to do. Only except sit and watch tv all day. And Jerry wasn't about snooping around the house.
He finally found himself sitting at the school waiting on Layne. He seemed to be one of the last people to come out of the building.
"How was school?" Jerry asked when Layne had got into the car. He didn't bother to put his seatbelt on.
"Boring as hell. Let's get out of here." Layne sighed.
"Grocery store." Jerry reminded.
"Can't we do that tomorrow?" Layne whined.
Jerry laughed. "You said that yesterday. It'll just be a quick stop."
________
________Jerry almost laughed at the things Layne was throwing in the cart. Cans of food to heat up in the microwave was majority of what he had picked out. He had informed Jerry he didn't like to cook and Jerry agreed with him.
"These too. I love these." Layne said. He threw a jar of pickles in the cart.
"Pickles? Ew."
"What? Pickles are good. I bet you've never tried them, have you?"
Jerry shook his head. "Nope, but the smell is enough for me."
Before the two were ready to check out Layne put a case of soda and some orange juice in the cart. Jerry paid for everything. He used the money Layne's parents had left and still had plenty left over.
"Now we can go home." Layne said happily.
______________
______________"You're older than me. That should mean you're smart and wiser than me. So I need help."
Layne threw his notebook down on Jerry. He had a couple math problems written down. Jerry had no idea where to start. Math was his worst subject. He barely passed it during his high school days.
"I can't really help you here. I don't remember this." Jerry said.
"Well maybe you can do something to get my mind working." Layne said.
Jerry gave him an odd look. "What do you want me to do?"
Layne shrugged. His fingertips began to trace up Jerry's arm. The small touch sent a shiver down Jerry's spine.
"What do you have in mind?" Layne asked.
Jerry knew what Layne was up to. While it was very tempting, Jerry knew he had a job to do. He couldn't let Layne control him.
"How about you look at a few things you've already finished? You can look at those examples. It'll help you find the answer to these."
"I left my notes at school." Layne sighed. His hand traveled up Jerry's shirt.
"What're you doing?" Jerry asked.
"Just close your eyes."
"No, Layne. I can't." Jerry said, pulling Layne's hand away.
"Why can't you?"
"Because I'm your babysitter. I can't be messing around with you. Do you know what your parents would do to me?"
Layne shrugged. "So they won't find out."
Jerry chuckled. "Yeah, sure. Every secret comes out eventually."
Layne shook his head. "I'm not like that. I don't tell them everything. Actually, I don't tell them anything. But.... if you change your mind I'll be in my room. Waiting for you."
Layne's mouth was only a few inches from Jerry's ear. Layne stood from his seat and grabbed his notebook before going back up the stairs. Before he disappeared, he gave Jerry a look. A needy look and it instantly turned Jerry on even more.
Jerry tried hard to fight the urge to go up to Layne's room. He bit his lip, wondering if he should go, or kept himself together.
