A heart beat. It was like a faint glow in darkness. It came and left in seconds. Over and over again. Were my eyes open?
Were they?
I, saw something beside me. It was, rain.
A rain that, defied natural shape. My body was liquid. I felt as if, I was in a world with endless drops of water, going up and down at the same time.
Everything a very light gray. I felt clemency, and then felt as if my body was eroding away, forming into the odd small circles that forever seemed to flow into different shapes around me. Was I contributing?
There was no sound. I felt my body going down, fast at first, then, slowly. Before me, a white glowing circle started to form into a bigger shape. I would fall into it?
Afterlife? Was I dead?
I put my hands before me, to see if I could touch the glowing portal. My hand slowly started to shred away, like paper. Until, I was gone.
Into the portal then, everything seemed to reverse. My body came back, great colors of reds, purples, blues, yellows, and any other shade I knew or recognized started to burst from a dot before me. It colored the space around me. I heard voices. I saw movement. The colors formed pictures of 1952 in my mind.
My voice sounded next. It was saying something, but, I never knew what. My senses started to activate, I became lucid. Everything became more chaotic without any sound. And, just as I started to grip onto this place where it couldn’t be reality, I opened my eyes.
A dream?
A dream that only made me panic, when I was awake from it. Because, it felt so real.
Where am I?
I looked at my body and saw it was all in one piece. I was still wearing the shirt and skirt and the 2 inch black glossy high heels, my hair was nicely groomed, I could feel that. I had the suitcase in my hand and looked around. I was on top of a building? Don’t tell me. Did I? Pass out? I never jumped, did I?
I slowly got up. How long was I out? Minnie would be coming through that door soon, right? I looked at the rooftop, and stopped what I was doing.
I noticed, the building looked, slightly, different than what I remembered. I looked from side to side and saw the buildings I had looked at before with Minnie. They seemed, the same. Or, no. Maybe, well, they looked, new.
I started to shake. I turned my body towards the front of the building, put down the suitcase and slowly walked to the edge. The wind blowing. I closed my eyes, touched the edge opened and, all, in front of me was a different world!
Below me was old traffic! I squinted and saw, old clothing! People running in the streets. Cars honking...Oh. I fell down and put my hand over my mouth.
Everything was like, a kingdom! A kingdom of, well, 1952! All I could say was… the pictures, didn’t do this era justice.
I pinched myself to make sure I was awake. I definitely was. I crawled over to the edge and peeked over the concrete wall. Incredible!
