Alex Morgan.
Morgan Brian.
Other than the name 'Morgan', the female athletes were quite different.
Alex was a forward, Morgan a midfielder. One a brunette, the other blonde. West coast California vs. East coast Georgia. There was even a four year age difference.
Still, people got it wrong and the one word similarity created a world of complications for the two girls.
It's most entertaining when their own teammates flubbed the names.

"Of course I miss you," Alex smiled into her phone. "I have to wait a whole five days until I see you next."
"We can make up for lost time once you get back," Servando purred.
Alex couldn't help but laugh aloud. Right as she was about to respond, the door to her hotel room burst open.
"Alex! Your savior has arrived! I come bringing pads and tampons to help tame the crimson tide," Kelley shouted, no doubt loud enough for not only their entire floor but also Servando to hear.
"Oh... is it that time of the month already?"
Kelley didn't understand why Alex was glaring at her like she was the villain and not the knight in shining armour. She chose to awkwardly stand in the doorway as Alex finished her call.
"Yeah, I'll call you again later," Alex finally hung up the phone. She placed her phone on the bedside table. All it took was a look for Kelley to spill.
"Don't blame me! Dawn just gave me this bag and asked me to deliver it."
"Did she specifically say to give it to me," Alex asked.
"Uh. Well she didn't say "Give this to Alex.""
"So what made you think it was for me? I'm not even on my period."
"I just assumed so. I mean it has 'Morgan' written on the bag." Kelley turned the paper sack for Alex to see.
Just like that it clicked. Alex sighed. "Did you consider that there is another Morgan on this trip?"
Kelley answered her with a blank stare.
"Kelley, thank you," Morgan appeared in the hallway. "Dawn said she'd send some up until I had time to get to the pharmacy. You're a life saver!" With that Morgan grabbed the sack from Kelley's limp hands and rushed back the way she came.
Kelley turned back to a still frustrated Alex.
"Ohhhh."
There was a reason for why the girls clung to nicknames. There was no confusing Moe for Alex, Baby Horse for Morgan. Though the same couldn't be said for Al. But that was a whole other problem.
Alex and Morgan found themselves in many similar situations like those, but eventually the team learned how to deal with it. The coaches and staff didn't catch on as quickly.

"Morgan! Move up!" Jill shouted as the girls scrimmaged.
