-London, England-

Everything in Farkle's life was so slow and boring. His work had become so uneventful that he was suddenly no longer enjoying the work he was doing. He was in charge of the London branch of Minkus International which was a big responsibility. But the job itself entailed mostly paperwork and business negotiations. When he had gone to Oxford for psychics and chemistry this was not where he thought he would end up. He had wanted to work in the science field with numbers, equations, experiments rather than photocopies and calculator math. He felt uninspired which was new for him. His whole life he felt like he could do anything and now all he felt was that there was nothing to do. It wasn't his place anymore. When he moved to England, for school with Isadora, he thought that he would be in England forever. But since he and Isadora broke up there wasn't much left for him here anymore, besides work. Farkle didn't exactly have a great social life outside of his office; He had two buddies from university Andrew and Callum but they were now both well further ahead in their lives than Farkle felt he was, they had careers that they said they loved and also had started their own families. Callum was engaged and was getting married in June. It was insane to him to think that for the first time in his life he might actually be falling behind. He had always wanted a family but he always thought that the whole finding a girl and then making her his wife thing would happen spontaneously thanks to the universe. He new this was not a realistic philosophy but he did believe that fate put Riley, Maya and his other friends into his life and he couldn't explain that, he just got lucky. Which used to bother him a lot because he often got hung up trying to find the meaning of things. But over time Farkle had excepted that sometimes luck didn't need to be explained, only appreciated. There had been a few girls here and there in Farkle's life but non lasted longer than a month at most. There was never a spark that lasted which made Farkle think that maybe the idea of a magic chemical attraction wasn't exactly real. But also maybe London just wasn't where he was meant to find that attraction.

There was a new position opening up at Minkus International back in New York and he wasn't sure exactly how to bring it up with his father. He knew that running the London section was a huge deal and a big responsibility and it wasn't that he was ungrateful for the opportunity but he was just so unhappy in England. It was time to get back to what made Farkle happy. But Farkle also knew that jumping into a decision was never a good idea, so when he received Riley's birthday invitation he knew that this was his opportunity to test the waters back in New York and have a discussion with his father face to face rather than over the phone. He instantly sent a RSVP back letting Riley know he would be able to make it. He knew in his heart of hearts that his father would see that his son was unhappy and not take it personally but deep down this made Farkle feel like he had failed. Failure didn't feel or look good on Farkle. When he looked in the mirror he noticed he was now skinnier and his face was starting to show his exhaustion, people he worked with had even noticed pointing out to him he had unused vacation days and that maybe a trip would relax him. Andrew and Callum had also reached out trying to organize a boys night but Farkle always declined saying he had work to catch up on.

Before he left the office for the night Farkle decided to email his dad, knowing that with the time difference it would be too early for him to call. 'Hello father, just wanted to make you and mother aware that I'll be in New York for a few days for Riley's 23rd birthday and I'm really eager to talk to you about the company and my responsibilities here in London,' he typed out and sent off. It wasn't a long message but he knew that his father would be excited to have heard from him and that his mother would be busy cleaning away even though Farkle had no intention of staying with his parents, He wanted his trip to be free of ties to others. He was going to be there to get re-antiquated with the area and himself and he didn't need anyone, even those he loved with all his heart getting in the way of that.
