-New York City, USA-

Maya was officially in New York and Riley couldn't be anymore excited about it. They girls had decided to meet up at dinner rather than at the airport, this way Maya and Caleb could get settled in their hotel. This wasn't ideal to Riley but she figured if Maya thought it was best then it probably was. It was still two hours until Riley had to be at her parents house but her excitement was slowing time down. She couldn't figure out what she wanted to wear. All of her clothes seemed so basic and boring and she wanted to come off relaxed and excited all at the same time. She settled on a pair of jeans that had embroidered flowers on the back pockets and a light pink top long sleeve top that had a slight v neck line. While deciding between two of her shoe options there was a knock at her front door that sent Riley heart through the roof. It had to be Maya deciding that she couldn't wait to see Riley until dinner. Riley basically jumped over her furniture to get to the front door. She took a deep breath, undid the lock and opened the door but to her disappointment it was only her uncle Josh standing in her doorway with a suitcase in hand.

"Oh, its only you," Riley said welcoming Josh into her home. On a regular day she would have been excited to see him, especially since he had been away on business, but today was no regular day and Riley felt nothing but sad and annoyed at the sight of her uncles face.

"Well its nice to see you too Riley," Josh said hanging his coat on top of his suitcase and slumping down onto her pastel pink couch.

"It's not that it isn't nice to see you, I just thought-" Riley started looking up at Josh apologetically.

"Let me guess," He silenced her "you thought I was Maya?" He asked her like he already knew the answer which puzzled Riley. She hadn't told Josh that Maya was coming early, but she wondered if maybe her dad had.

"Yeah how did you know that?" She sat down on her couch next to him and put on her socks. She hadn't really spoken much to Josh about Maya's visit because of their history. Maya had the biggest crush on Josh their entire childhood and he definitely knew about it. Josh had been adamant that their three year age gap was too much but while the girls had been in high school he told Maya he would play the long game and maybe one day they could be together. Maya had been hung up on him for a long time and really didn't get into relationships after that. But as life went on Josh started seeing someone and Maya took it really hard but she got over it and finally allowed herself to move on. When Maya had gotten excepted into the arts program at UCLA everyone was excited about it except Josh. Which was strange considering he was still in a relationship at the time. They got into a big fight that Maya refused to talk to Riley about. So she really didn't bring Maya up much to Josh in the last five years.

"I actually just saw her," Josh said making Riley perk up once again. Suddenly she was getting giddy and whipped her head around to stare at her door hopefully.

"Like just now? Is she here, In the building?" Riley asked quickly without taking a single breath.

"No, at the airport" Josh said, he had a serious tone to his voice which was unlike Josh. He could be pretty serious when it came to work or when he was just flat out stressed but when it came to his family or Maya, apart from the UCLA incident, he was never very serious at all. Josh was a mostly upbeat person.

"Is she ok?" Riley asked giving Josh her full attention. If something was up with Maya then what she was shoes she was wearing didn't matter. All she wanted to know was how her best friend was.

"I think she was ok," he started sounding a little unsure "It was her boyfriend, something just seemed really off" Riley studied Josh's face noting the tension lines forming on his forehead. She only ever really noticed these if he was deep in thought.
