Max sighed as he swam around the lake he called home. He looked around emotionlessly as he was used to the dull seen. Same seaweed, same rocks, same fish. Same boring life. You see, Max has been in this lake since the day he was born. He wasn't alone though.
He had his guardian David! David was the oldest merman in the lake, basically the only one. He also had his two best friends Neil and Nikki! They were mermaids\ merboys. And even though he had all these great things, he was still bored.
He brought his head to the surface and looked around. He didn't understand much about land, but it was much more interesting than the lake he spent most of his life in. Max submerged back into the water and sunk to the bottom of the lake. He was deep in thought, and was close to falling asleep. That was until he heard a giant splash and was startled.
There in front of him was a child with a helmet, well... more like a fish bowl on his head. He looked at Max and waved. Max reluctantly waved back. What is that thing?? Max asked himself. The child swam back up to the surface and swam to the doc. He sat on it, and out of pure curiosity Max followed him.
He looked at Max "Wow!! Are you a real mermaid!?" The kid asked. Max scowled at the word 'mermaid'. Did he look like a girl?? Heck no!! He was manly! "Merboy." Max corrected "Oh! That makes sense!" The kid smiled "What's your name merboy?" Max felt a little nervous, didn't David say to stay away from air breathers? "Why are you asking so many questions?? I'm not gonna give my information to some stranger! For all I know you might dissect me!!" The child tilted his head, he was kinda upset that Max didn't trust him. Even so he knew that Max was right about not just giving out information. They just met like five seconds ago, and yet he wanted to know more about the interesting merboy. "I dunno what dissecting is, but you're right about me being a stranger. Let's break the ice!" Max looked around "I don't see any ice.." The child chuckled "I mean introduce our selves!"
He went back in the water "My name is Space Kid! I'm... uh.." he counted his fingers "I'm nine!" Max looked away for a couple seconds, debating on if he should tell the Space Kid his information or not. He sighed "My name is Max. I'm ten years old. What exactly are you?? You look like a human, but David told me that they are very big, and scary." Space Kid chuckled "Only grownups are big and scary! I'm just a kid!"
It began to get dark and cold. Space Kid swam away, but was stopped when Max grabbed his arm. "Where are you going??" Space Kid shivered "T-the doc!" Max let go and Space Kid swam to the doc. Space Kid looked up at the sky "I've got time." He sighed. "Time for what?" Max asked. "To get back to camp and look at space!"
Max had never be more curious before in his life. "Space??" Space Kid gasped "You don't know what space is!?" Max shook his head. "We live in space!! Space has planets, stars, the sun, and the moon!" Max looked so confused. He had no clue what any of that stuff is. "Can you show me space??" Max asked curiously
Space Kid looked excited "Sure!! No one has ever wanted to see space with me before!! But space only comes out at night. Will you still be here?" Max nodded "Where else would I be? On land??" He said sarcastically. Space Kid chuckled "I'll meet you here later, ok?" He stood up and ran off. Max watched the boy run off until he was out of sight. He sighed and dived back into the lake. Swimming around, hoping to pass the time.
Soon he heard splashing and stopped swimming. He looked in the direction of the noise, and saw a hand splashing in the water. Max went to the surface and saw Space Kid. He quickly swam over to him. Space Kid had all sorts of weird gadgets. "You ready to see space!?" Max smiled excitedly, he finally got to experience something new! "Heck yeah!!"
