{A/N: if you haven't read the messages attached to each chapter, some things in the story won't really make sense...}

Waking up in cold sweats is always a bad sign.

Melia Mathers pealed back her covers from her clammy body. She had a vague recollection of staying up the night before emailing LCmarks554. Who ever he was.

It was pointless chatter, just as always. Still, it was usually the highlight of her day.

Opening the door of the bathroom across the hall, she smelt the pancakes her dad was making in the kitchen. Closing the door, Melia turned on the shower, waiting for it to heat up.

Her morning routine went by as it always did. Showering, brushing her teeth and hair, throwing the first pair of pants and t-shirt she saw, all before walking down the hall of the apartment, and entering the kitchen.

Her dad was sitting at the small table in the corner, reading the news paper... As always.

"Morning Pa." Melia grabbed the mug of coffee her dad had set out for her. Milk with just a tad of hot fudge, just the way she liked it.

"Morning Mel." Mr. Mathers said, not looking up from his paper. "What time is it? I have to be at the office at 8:15."

"You have time. I on the other hand have to be at school in 30 minutes." Melia chugged the rest of her coffee and put the empty mug in the sink. "And you know how long the bus takes."

"Okay. Don't forget a scarf Mel, it's going to get pretty cold in the afternoon."

"Sure, Pa" Melia placed a light kiss on her father head before rushing out of their apartment, coat, backpack, and scarf in hand.

"Bye, Mel!" She heard the faded voice of her father as the door closed.

As the elevator clunked to her floor, Melia tugged on her jacket and her scarf, smiling to herself.

Two blocks away, Chase Marks was just getting out of bed.

(Four Hours Later)

"I don't see why you can't eat lunch with your friends."

"Dad, I already told you." Chase Marks sighed. "Lucas is retaking a test and Max always spends his lunch with his girlfriend. Trust me, you don't want to be around that."

Mr. Marks, the Calculus teacher, sat quite far away from his son. Or maybe it was the other way around. It was, in fact, Chase who came in and choose the desk at the back of the room.

"Well as long as your here, would you like to help me with grading some tests?"

"I'll pass, I've got homework anyway."

Mr. Marks sighed, but didn't argue. Chase looked as tired as he was.

At this time in the lunch room, Melia sat with her friends.

"Well it's not like he had bad ideas," said Adam, Melia's one and only guy friend (aside from LCmarks554 of course). "He just did really express them that well in the debate."

"Says you." Retorted Melia's other friend, Zoe.

"Are you guys seriously fighting about politics?" This was said by Melia, slightly exasperated. "You couldn't fight about something that I at least know something about?"

"Oh but we aren't fighting about politics," said Zoe.

"We're fighting about the last debate out English class had," finished Adam.

"Well that's a really idiotic thing to fight about. What is there to even fight about?"

"Well I'm saying that Jonah didn't really appeal to the audience-"

"Which he did."

"-And Zoe here is being biased just because he's her boyfriend."

"I am not!"

"Yea you kind of are Zo." Melia said. "Look guys, as thrilling as this is and as much as I would love to stay and see how this turns out, I have to go and talk to Mr. Marks about my last trigonometry test." Zoe opened her mouth to protest as Melia lifted her bag onto her shoulder, getting up from her seat. "Bye guys. Enjoy your argument."

Back in Mr.Marks's room, Chase Marks was getting sent to the teachers office. His father asked him to pick up the attendance sheet for his next class.

In the next hallway over, Chase walked past a girl with dark, brown hair. He didn't really pay attention to her, and neither did she to him.

Melia walked down the hallway, passing a tall, blonde boy. She didn't pay much attention to him, she didn't find it necessary.

This was the first time Melia and Chase met, or were in each other's presence with awareness.

In the coming year: Melia would fall in love with a stranger.

Chase would loose some one he cared about deeply.

Both Chase and Melia would speak, more than once.

In the coming year, the lives of Melia and Chase would change dramatically.
