Melia walked slowly into the lunch room. She spotted Zoe and Adam on the other side and headed over to them.
"But I don't see why he had to let her go!" Adam said, obviously exasperated.
"She did exactly give him a choice, did she?" Zoe countered.
Of course they were arguing.
"You guys are like an old married couple, you know," Melia said, talking a seat.
"Shut up," Adam snapped. "But he was supposed to go in a die. No one likes him! Why does she have to be so freaking noble?"
"What are you guys arguing about now?"
"Well I know that he was supposed to die, but they needed to get the job done and her brother couldn't do it because he got caught." Zoe argued.
Adam huffed and turned to Melia: "We're arguing about the ending of Allegiant. Zoe made me read all the books and I hate her for it."
"Oh yea, that's a sad ending. But Zoe does have a point." Adam glared at both of them. "Plus there's no changing the ending."
"You're just as bad, Mel," mumbled Adam.
"I'm just saying. I didn't think it was fair either, but it's wasn't a bad ending," Melia defended.
"See, this is why I don't read," said Adam before turning away and sulking.
Zoe and Melia shared a look before talking about something else. Adam didn't bother to listen.

Chase Marks entered the lunch room for the first time in what felt like years. He walked in further and spotted Melia, that girl he met the other day, at the other end of the lunch room.
Chase looked around for any one else he knew before heading over to her.
He sat between Melia and a boy with red hair and a lot of freckles. The boy looked at Chase weirdly before returning to picking at his food.
Melia turned to him. She was definitely surprised to see him. Chase smiled.
"Hello, Melia," he said. The other girl at the table stared at him like a wild species.
"Hi." Melia said. "Chase?"
He was a little disappointed that she didn't immediately recognize him. Either way, he smiled and nodded.
"Hello," he said again.
"Hi," she said, finally smiling. Chase liked her smile, a lot.
"Hello-" Chase started to say.
"Oh my god," the red haired boy said. "Can you guys please stop flirting in front of us!?"
Melia blushed and Chase was sure he did too. But only a little.

Melia decided to walk home today. It was sunny, and not very cold, considering it was February.
Five minutes into leaving the school, with the music blasting through her headphones, she felt a tap on her shoulder.
Se whipped her headphones out of her ear and turned to the person. It was Chase Marks.
"Are you staking me?" Melia asked, jokingly.
"Oh definitely," Chase said with a smirk. "I can hear your music from five feet away... Just so you know."
Melia rolled her eyes. "Why are you walking this way anyway?"
"Because I live this way."
"Oh," was all she said. Because it was quite obvious and she felt foolish for asking.
"Hey, Melia," Chase asked after a couple of silent minutes of the two waking.
"Yea?"
"What's your favorite book?"
"The Giver, why?"
"Oh, no reason." But there was a reason, and Chase was getting curious.
"Okay."
A couple more minutes passed without either of them talking. Melia was humming under her breath, and Chase was thinking, hard.
"Hey, Melia," Chase said again.
"Mhmm?"
"What's your favorite song?"
"Take Me To Church by Hozier, he's Irish," she said.
"Okay."
Chase was positive now. It was her. It had to be. Melia... It could be the Mel. His Mel... Well, she could be.
"Hey Mel." Chase started again.
"Don't call me Mel."
"Why not?"
"Because only my friends call me Mel."
Chase held back a smile. He was her friend. She just didn't really know it was him.
"So what are we?" He asked
"Acquaintances," she smiled at him. "You have to earn the title of friendship."
He returned her smile widely. "Will do."
