chapter eighteen / ship-pal
No More Dream
(018)"Yani," I shriek. A sharp intake of breath is heard from the girl. She looks down at the silver blade that sits in her stomach, her blood dripping down from the metal. Her hands tremble as she brings them to her wound. Her pale skin is quickly stained by red. She looks back up at her brother, a look of unadulterated betrayal painted on her face. There's no sign of remorse found from Kai, he only stares at her, completely emotionless.
No one knows what to do. Kai isn't our enemy, but we can't treat him as an ally. He's a danger to us, so how do we handle this situation? One thing is for sure, we need to help Yani before her wound kills her.
Her knees buckle and she topples to the ground. We all run to her side, some of us trying to assist her, the others keeping a cautious eye on the boy who attacked her. I kneel down to her side. She looks at me, panic etched on her features, and pain causing her forehead to crease. "Don't hurt Kai! Please don't hurt him!" She clutches the fabric of my collar in her hand, her body tensing. Even though she could die because of the wound her brother gave her, she still only worries for Kai's safety.
"We won't hurt him. We're all getting out of this, alright?" I try to assure her, "so don't worry, I'm going to take care of everything." She nods her head slowly as she struggles to breathe, pain causing her whole body to tremble.
I instruct Hoseok to get on her other side, reach under her arms, and help me lift her up. She lets out a loud groan as we move her. I cringe as I imagine the pain we're causing her, but the alternative isn't any better. We couldn't help her in a place like this; it's far too dangerous.
As we lift Yani to her feet, Kai brings out another weapon from behind his back. I almost freeze, scared by who he might attack next. How could we fight against him? Before I can even form a plan though, Taehyung takes out a gun and shoots him. Yani struggles from our grasp as she screams and yells profanities at Taehyung. I look at Kai who had immediately gone limp and dropped to the ground. I then look at Taehyung, my mouth gaping at the suddenness of his actions, and the lack of guilt in his eyes. For a second, I wonder if he's hallucinating too because I know he'd never kill an innocent boy like that.
"What?" His eyebrows furrow as he carelessly swings around the weapon he had just used, "it's just a tranquilizer."
We all breathe a sigh or relief. Even Yani seems to relax a bit. Now that Kai is unconscious, we can get him out of here without worrying about him stabbing us in the back. Though his quick thinking saved us, and definitely made our situation easier, it doesn't stop Jin from smacking the back of Taehyung's head.
"God, you scared the crap out of me!" Taehyung responds with a glare as he rubs the spot where Jin hit him.
"Why don't we stop wasting time, and get out of here," Namjoon urges, to which no one argues.
