18.
"I'm not going to be a buffing zone between your two boyfriends, if that's what you think," Caroline mocked.
"Wait, you have two boyfriends?" Miranda exclaimed.
I took a deep breath, held it in for two counts, and forgot to let it go. "No, Miranda, I don't. And quit calling him my boyfriend, Caroline!" Especially right in front of Miranda. She was like a dog with a bone when there was a secret she wasn't in on. "And besides, it's my brother's birthday party, not speed dating."
Derek and Jeremy, the two boys caught in the crossfire of the conversation, exchanged a word or two, before snickering. Boy, they were just like Miles and Adrian. Oh, mental note: invite those two to the party as well. I turned to Jeremy and Derek. "You guys are coming to my brother's party next saturday, right?"
"Wouldn't miss it," said Derek, smiling.
"Dude, two words," Jeremy added. "Bouncy castle."
"See, they're coming!" I yelled to the girls. "So why aren't you!"
"We're only messing with you," Caroline laughed. "Of course we're coming to your brother's birthday party."
"Miranda?" I tried. "You too?"
"Your brother's the best, of course I'm so, totally there. And besides, my mum's making our whole family come anyway. There was no escaping it."
"I'm going to ignore that last part," I responded.
With that, the bell rang, motioning us to our next class. Since the five of us had skipped fifth period--we were all in calculus together--that left Physics for two of us; and something else for the other two. Caroline and I hauled ass off the field, heading toward physics.
"Nice of you two to finally join us," 'Mr Henrik' greeted us, as we entered. We took our seats at the back, where we always sat, and he continued to stare at us. Obviously he was expecting an excuse. "Mind telling me why you're so late, and it better not have anything to do with your unexplained absence during period 5?"
Caroline and I shrugged, not really in the mood for another one of his pointless disputes.
He shook his head in disapproval, continuing his lesson. This time, Caroline was actually taking notes, courtesy to a generous some of money her dad had promised her if she got at least a B. My father, on the other hand, would probably pay me money not to take this class. He still thought I was going into pre-law. Who knew he was a jerk and a moron?
I took a forty minute power nap.
I woke up as everybody was making their way out of the class, their chairs on their desks. Christian was standing right in front of my desk, in between rows, his arms crossed. When my eyes opened for the first time, they focussed in on the crotch of Christian's trousers, which were barely a metre away. Crap.
Looking up, I found him looking down at me with an unimpressed look on his face, as though he was groaning, Really? Yep, he knew exactly what I'd been staring at.
I scrambled to get my things, while he made his way up to the front of the classroom.
"I really need to talk to you about something," I told him, approaching him where he was cleaning the board. I dug around in my backpack, searching for the form I'd wanted him to sign since yesterday.
"Not right now, Blaire," Christian responded. Before I could say anything, he turned around, handing me a slip of paper from his desk, forcing me to abandon my own search. "I was meant to inform you that your saturday detentions have been revoked for good behaviour. This is a letter for your parents." Good behaviour? I all but mentally scoffed.
