I used to think that when you dog-eard pages, or when you used the cover of a hard-cover book, you were disrespecting literature. I know now that I was wrong.

Books having creases or rips in their pages made them even more exquisite to look at. Not only did books take you away to another place with one story, but they also had a story of their own.

The book that's sitting in my lap right now, the one that I just finished reading, had the longest story to tell.

I set the book down next to me, biting the inside of my lip as the words replayed through my mind.

I know you'll look at this one day, dear. I just know it. Because of course they'll save you. I hope they do. If not, I'm glad. Because then we will be together forever. And you will always be my little boy.

I'll miss you, Aleksandr.

"I miss you too mom..." I whispered, brushing a tear away.

I slid off my bed, stretching my arms out. I strode across the room to my window and opened it, letting morning light in. I need to get to Eddie's house to take him to school.

After dropping Eddie off, I left. Today was not a day I wanted to be in school.

I headed back home, only making one stop on the way to pick up some stuff.

My dad left early and Laney was always too drunk or stoned to realize I ever skipped class until she left for her night job.

I went up the steps and into my room, locking the door behind me.

I sat on my bed, and reached under it, feeling around until I pulled out an old shoe box.

I opened it, revealing my stash of drugs.

I hadn't touched these in quite a while...

I bit my thumb in thought.

One last time.. Then they're gone for good...if she doesn't show up..

I nodded to myself in agreement, pulling out a little bag with a white, powdery substance in it.

I chewed my lip, dumping some of it onto the back of my hand.

I sniffed, rubbing my nose once I was finished getting the substance in.

Just a bit more..it's not kicking in..

After a few more tries, I felt my mind go hazy.

I laid back on my bed, holding my mothers book to my chest, as my mind flew off into outer space.
