Heart of Darkness

Jughead, Phoenix, Jameson, and Betty were sitting with Kevin in front of his dad's research. "This is how my dad had his Jason Blossom murder board before it was trashed," Kevin said, adjusting a picture on the wall.

"Any leads on who did that? Or what they were looking for?" Jughead anxiously curled up his fingers.

"Nope. No fingerprints. But they stole a bunch of files, background checks, and all the video and audio tapes of police interviews." Kevin replied.

"Well, they were thorough," Phoenix turned to Jughead as the door was opening.

"Don't compliment the person at large," Jughead shook his head at her. She punched his shoulder.

"Hey, Betty..." the stranger in the doorway spoke out.

"Trev, hi!" Betty responded with a smile.

"I thought this was a private investigation," Phoenix said to Jughead quietly.

The boy must've heard her, "sorry to interrupt..."

"Oh, no... Uh, it's okay." Betty stopped him. "We're just, uh, working on..."

"Our murder board," Jughead interjected.

Trevor stood there in silence before finally collecting his thoughts, "well, I just wanted to make sure we're still on for tomorrow?"

"Absolutely, it's a date." Betty smiled at him again. Everyone in the room looked in shock at the two. "I mean, I'll... I'll see you there. Bye," Betty awkwardly chuckled.

"Peace out. See ya," he waved, leaving the room.

"Peace out. Bye."

"Going on a date with Trev? Does Mama Cooper know about that?" Kevin asked.

"Kev, I'm not on house arrest." Betty sighed, "okay, she's out of town at a Women in Journalism spa retreat." Phoenix chuckled again as Betty turned the them, "anyway, it's not a date, date."

"You just called it a date," Jameson said, giving her a cheeky smile. "You literally said, it's a date."

"It sounds like a date," Phoenix said, placing her hands on her hips.

"That's just my cover. Really, it's an intelligence gathering mission. We should focus on the one thing we have access to that your dad doesn't," She turned to Kevin. "The kids at Riverdale High. You know, maybe Trev knows something about Jason he didn't think was important," Betty continued trying to prove her point.

"Okay, if we say we believe that it's not a date, will you stop?" Phoenix chuckled. Betty looked at her confused.

"I still don't buy it," Kevin turned back to the board.

Betty, Veronica, Jameson, Kevin, and Jughead were walking down the bleachers, towards Archie. Betty had a smile on her face and seemed lost. Veronica took notice and smiled "Betty, you're positively radiating Nicholas Spark."

Jameson just gave a questioning look, "who?"

Jughead turned to him "he directed the Notebook."

Veronica just ignored the side talk. "Tell me everything about this Trev."

Kevin, hands in pockets, just shook his head "Oh, there's nothing to tell. Just one of Betty's sources, there's nothing romantic in the offing."

"Why is everything so weird here?! Why can't a date just be a date." Veronica stated as her and the others sat by Archie.
