Freya takes over the training of a group of new soldiers. Thalia, being the only female in the group, tries harder than anyone else. Taken by her bravery and her skillful use of daggers, Freya decides that Thalia is small and would be easily underestimated, and soon promotes the soldier to her personal guard and assassin. The story then goes on to follow the pair through assassination attempts, traitors, and the many other challenges they face as the war reaches its climax.
