WHITE DOVES.

THIRD PERSON POV

THERE was an eerily quiet atmosphere as the three sat in the waiting room. Nurses came in and out of the emergency room, carrying hospital equipments. Taehyung’s eyes were red from crying, actually, he had been crying for the past three hours since the incident. After he rescued Songmin from the fall and drowning, he wasted no time in calling the ambulance, and they arrived in just time to save her, but she still wouldn’t wake up.

Songmin’s parents sat alone together, none of them said a word. It was twelve o’clock at midnight when they suddenly received a call from the hospital, saying that their daughter was in a life and death situation. Of course, they rushed to the destined place, but they didn’t know how to feel about their only successor dying.

Taehyung was the only one who was genuinely worried about her health. He was worried that he wouldn’t see her or her smile anymore. He sat lifelessly while fumbling with his fingers, anxiously waiting for the results.

Finally, the Doctor came out. Taehyung and the old couple quickly stood up.

“Family members of Han Songmin?” He asked, looking his clipboard.

“Yes.” Songmin’s Mom replied, “How is she, Doctor?”

She could hear the Doctor sigh. “Well, since your daughter was drowning, it caused her to go into a state of coma because of the lack of oxygen. There is no guarantee that she will wake up, she might wake up in the next few weeks, months, or never. She is in room 207, you may go visit her anytime. But for now, please go home and rest. Visiting hours are closed.”

“Yes. Thank you, Doctor.” They bowed respectfully, Taehyung stayed quiet. The couple soon left as Taehyung made his one last glance before leaving the hospital as well.

The shining bright light from the Sun made Songmin’s eyes slightly twitch, in which she used her arm to cover them. But then, she felt her body touching a grassy surface.

Slowly, she opened her eyes and got up from her previous position. She had blurry memories of what happened last night but now, all she saw was a field of green grass and the blue sky.

When she looked down, Songmin quickly realized she was wearing a white dress and was barefooted.

“Where am I?” She asked no one in particular, she looked around only to see herself alone in this plain grassland. The strong wind made her hair brush against her face and her white dress slightly flying.

In her dress pocket, there was something a bit heavy. It bothered her so she pulled it out, only to find out it was an object that she used very often. Her phone.

After Songmin unlocked her lockscreen, something caught her eye. It was an app named ‘Memories’. She was sure she had never downloaded that shit before. So why was it in her phone? What was even more strange, was her phone contacts. There was only three. Mom, Dad, and…

Dove?

Curious, her thumb moved to the screen, touching the place of the contact’s name.

DOVE

ME
Hi, who the fuck are you?

DOVE
Hello, Han Songmin! Welcome to the Alternate Reality. You are the first human to enter a different reality than the one everyone lives in. The white birds will guide you to your destination.

The moment she looked up, there’s groups of flying white birds across the sky in one direction. Since there’s nothing can be seen nearby so Songmin decided it was best to follow the doves.

The doves had guided Songmin into a place with flashing white lights, the mysterious light had raised Songmin’s curiosity, she wanted to see what’s on the other side of this magical light. She went in there but to found herself inside her room.

“What the fuck is an Alternate Reality?” Songmin mused and then text the Dove again.

ME
Why am I here?

DOVE
If you want to know, press the Memories app. Everything that happened in your life should be stored inside.

Confused, Songmin did as instructed, the moment she tapped on the screen, flashbacks of last night’s memories started to pour into Songmin’s head.

That’s right. Before she knew it, Songmin was panicking.

“Am I dead? Is this where dead people go?”

DOVE
No, this is an alternate reality. Most things might remain the same like your original reality. But some things will change. For instance, those who were really close to you in your original reality.

ME
What? How can I get out of here?

DOVE
Well, you must find the key to solve this piece or you will remain stay here forever. Everything in this world will be the opposite of the original, but you will remain the same. Don’t worry, most things will change depending on your original universe events.
Have fun.

Keep in mind that if you do die here, you die in your own world as well.

Sweat ran down Songmin’s forehead as she read the last few texts. When she looked around and away from her phone, she didn’t notice the environment changing.

She was at a dark room with a shining light before, but now, she’s at…

Her home.

The next following day, Kim Taehyung was standing in front of room 207, with a bouquet of red roses in his possession. He twisted the doorknob open to find no one but Songmin. She was laying on the hospital bed.

He sighed as he took a few more closer to her. Taehyung placed the flowers on a desk nearby.
Then he sat on a chair near the bed, staring at the girl.

“Songmin...when are you going to wake up? It’s been a week already.” He spoke, his voice cracked a bit, “I’ve visited you everyday since. Songmin, please wake up soon. I miss you.”

He held her hands while softly sobbing “I‘m sorry about what happened to you, it was my fault. I wish I was there earlier, it wouldn’t happen if I didn’t come late.”

All of a sudden, a white bird flew into the opened window, surprising Taehyung. The said bird went straight for the bouquet of roses he sent her.

“Is that…a white dove?”
