[Ri Hyun's POV]
Bam!
My bedroom door flung open, smashing against the wall. I jolted up from my bed, mentally preparing for another round of torture. My sleepiness went off immediately when I saw a dark figure in front of me.
Oh, great. I forgot to lock my room.
It's 3 am in the middle of the night, which means my dad just got home. He appeared in front of me in a flash, eyes dripping with danger.
"You dirty little child. . ."
Pain jolted through my arms and I felt something awfully sharp scraping against my back. The pain was excruciating, but it didn't stop. Glass bottles, leather belts, hard wooden boards, and sharp knifes or scissors, I've been through everything.
My dad is very abusive, and sometimes he would come home as late as 4 in the morning. Sometimes he wouldn't come home at all, and wouldn't be home for as long as a month.
My mother left me when I was very little, I don't remember much, but I think I was around 6. Ever since then, my dad became abusive. He would do anything to me, he locks me up in my room for three days, with no food or drink. Getting drunk everyday after work, he's completely crazy when he gets home.
I've dealt with his abuse for a few years now, I guess I'm pretty much used to it. I have barely enough money to find a new home even if I work part time at the cafe so I don't even have to think about running away.
And although I have friends at school, I don't hang out with them much since I like being alone, and I didn't want anyone to find out about my family.
I slapped my hands over my ears when another stab of pain flashed through my body, letting out a small whimper and squeezing my eyes shut. My father's yelling was vague and I could barely make out anything as my vision blurred and I felt my head go hazy.
A low groan left my mouth and I leaned in further against the wall of my bed and slumping against the wall slightly. My ears were ringing and the world was spinning. My body became numb as I let myself drift off, my breathing weaker every minute. Darkness engulfed me after that, I was completely helpless as I leaned against the wall, my body screaming out in pain.

My eyes flutter open weakly, I could vaguely hear birds chirping from outside. I forced my body up despite it aching horribly, the new bruises now fresh on my skin.
I stared at my open wounds blankly for a few minutes before forcing myself off the bed. Then I locked the bathroom door, cleaning up my wounds and took a long shower.
I quickly got dressed and dashed downstairs to the door, my heart skipping beat when I caught a glimpse of my dad sitting at the dining room. I slammed the door shut and continued running until I was at least a couple of meters safe from danger.
Sighing, I quickly made my way to school.
After grabbing my books from my locker, I walked to class.
"Hey Ri Hyun!" Jaerin called from her seat. I smiled and walked over.
When break time came, I grabbed a drink and headed to the rooftop. I leaned back to the wall and sighed, enjoying the cool breeze blowing against me, letting my mind drift off.

"Ri Hyun! You're here!" My half-sister crashed into me the moment I walked into the cafe.
"Yeah, is everything okay?" I chuckled.
"Yup! I'm just happy to see my baby sister!" She cooed.
"Unnie, we're not even that close." I teased.
"Nonsense! We're closer than the closest thing in the world! I know everything about you!"
I let out a small laugh and went to change.
"So, how is it living with her?" I randomly asked, a little curious about my mother.
"Still the same thing." She shrugged.
"Your dad is busy as ever, huh?" She grabbed a cup from the counter and brought it to a machine.
"Yup," I laughed. "Totally busy."
I don't like my mom very much. But my unnie is the closest family member I have, although she doesn't know what happens to me at home. I'm still happy I have her.
After my shift ended at the cafe, I slowly walked back home.
"Oh?" I blurted as I stared at the house just beside mine.
New neighbours.
I stared for a while, looking at how the couples carried boxes of stuff into their new home. They looked tired, but happy. I smiled sadly, shaking my head and head home.
"Ah! Excuse me!" A voice made me stop in my tracks as I turned back to see a middle-aged woman.
"Oh, hello." I bowed.
"Hello, I'm your new neighbour, I live just beside you guys." She pointed to the house I was staring at earlier and I nodded.
"Ah, Nice to meet you...?"
"You can call me Mrs Kim." She smiled brightly. "Ah, this are for you and your family." Mrs Kim handed me a small box which I assumed contained food. I gratefully thanked her before walking back into the house.
Wow, cheesecake.
I placed it on the kitchen counter and walked up to my bedroom. After changing into something comfy, I took out my textbooks and start studying on my bed.
"Hmm?" My book closes shut and my eyes glued itself to a guy around my age, wandering around in his bedroom.
Shrugging, I closed my curtains and went back to focus.
