I walked into my mother's room to find proof that my father was cheating. I was looking around in her closet and all the memories of us came back to me. How she used to play with me, do my hair and read funny stories to me to help me sleep at night. All of it was gone.
Something caught my eye when I walked into her closet. It was a little box that had my name on it. I opened it and found some of my old things. A gun and a letter. I opened the letter and it read:
Dear Rey,
I don't know when you will find this letter. I thought long and hard and I finally made the decision that I was going to divorce your father.
The truth is. He had an affair with Emma. It wasn't only once or twice. It's been going on for years. Ever since our holiday together when you were 5. Your father couldn't go with us because he was busy with work. That was when the affair started.
I was not allowed to divorce your father because he said that if I divorced him, people would laugh at him and he would be humiliated. So he forbade me to divorce him and he said that if I did, he would get his lawyers to sue me. He also wouldn't care for you and he wouldn't give me money. Not only did he do that. He also forbade me to tell you about the affair. I stayed with him on two conditions. He promised to take care of you and he would never have an affair with Emma again.
One night. I found your father in Emma's room. He was drunk and he tried to explain himself. But I refused his apology and that was the night I came to your room and slept with you.
The night after I couldn't take it anymore. I couldn't live with him. It hurt me so much to leave you, but I really hope you understand. I will always be watching you and I really hope your father is taking care of you.
