Mrs. Mccarthy slided uncomfortably on her seat, they were just 500 meters away from town and she could alreadry see the big board infort of her with the writting 'Welcome to Coldhaven'. She glanced to her side to see a still snoring Max, 'my, my, he sure is a heavy sleeper' she giggled. She glanced back, for what seems to be the tenth time, before shaking her head in disagreement. "Kaylene honey, For the last time, TURN DOWN THAT MUSIC" Mrs. Mccarthy said warningly as she honked the car, just to make sure her daughter heard her right. "Wow! Mom! Okay, okay, I heard you! Gezz!" Kaylene exclaimed, taking off her headphones. She sneered at her mom's reaction, annoyed slightly at how old fashioned her mother is. Obviously bored, She took a cute little sketch pad from her bag and started drawing the rain scenery she witnessed at road 13. Her hand moved gracefuly as the idiosyncrasy started to take form. Finally finished, she eyed the rough sketch, feeling satisfied by her new artwork.
She was going to use some colour markers when the car suddenly moved to a halt, "We're here!!!"Mrs. Mccarty cheered both suprsing Kaylene and waking up Max. "I'm awake! Don't feed me to the lions!" he exclaimed, still caught up in his little dream. Kaylene and her mother sat there shocked before laughing their heads off, followed by Max's cheek burning like a tomato. "It's not funny!!" He shouted as he crossed his arms and pouted. Kaylene smirked at her brother's come back, "Yeah, you're right. It's hilarious!!". Her mother, who was laughing like a hyenna, 'Oohhh'ed her daughter's comeback, followed by a highfive. Mrs. Mccarty was indeed an easy going mother, and she knew the teen language like it was her mother tounge's. But she knew she still have to be responsible, after all she is a mother. So before things went out of hand she stopped Kaylene, "Okay that's enough, Kaylene dear since your 'supplies' are what mostly our stuff is why don't you get ready first? I'm taking Max here for shopping".
Before Kaylene could complain her mom already dragged her out of the car, showed her the enormous boxes the moving company just put down, and drove away to the nearest wallmart. The only sound she could hear was her brother mocking her childishly and her mother's car going full speed. She mentally stabbed her mom and dragged her feet to the boxes infront of the door. Grunting and sighing, she moved the boxes she marked to the second floor. The second floor had 3 bedrooms, and one bathroom. One of the bedroom in particular had a private bathroom, reserved for her mother, Obviously. She observed all the rooms before picking the last room at the hallway, where a large window was present. The view from the window was breath taking, for their house was just a block away from the park, and 5 blocks away from the public library. Kaylene's third favourute place in the world. She sighed as she finished moving all her boxes, which was 10 boxes in particular.
She was starting to unpack when an old tunebox caught her eye. It started to shine, and play a very peculiar tune. "hush now, hush now, the dead has awaken and a tale shall be told. Whispers of the dead shall fill the world you live. hush now, hish now.." the tune was cut when the tune box stopped working, the sound of broken disc was heard before it shut down. Kaylene's breath hitched as she witnessed what happened next. The tune box started to melt slowly as figures started to appear from the wall, as if there was some kind of sheet between her and them. The figures reaced out it's hand, feet, and face, which held a look of despair and hunger. As if they were tortured and had a burning passion for revenge. Kaylene stumbled back as the tune box melted into a tar-like substance, It too started to form a human-like figure before crying in a deep, rasp voce but this time, filled with power and obsession. 'Kay...le..ne.... come to me.... join me.....' It repeated over, and over again, driving the girl who was backed up into the wall crazy.
Kaylene held back a scream and closed her eyes shut as the creature kept repeating her name. It was just too painful. She tried to block the sound away, covering her ears with her hands. But it didn't do much, for she felt like her eardrums have exploded. Blood started oozing from her ear, slowly, as it trickled through her hand, and down to the floor. Her head was aching and she felt like she was about to faint, But curiosity took it's toll on her. She began to open her eyes, to only find the creature just a metre away from her. It moved, draging it's 'body' out of the liquid slowly while screaming her name. She swallowed her fear and tried to stand tall as it moves closer. It's mouth pouring chunks of bloody meat and more tar everytime it spoke. Slowly but steadily, she jumped to away from the creature and to her window.
She thought she was safe, but Kaylene's breath was hitched again when she felt sharp fingers touch her arms. She bit her lower lip to cover up the pain she was having. Blood began to trickle down her arms as the rough wood-like-texture fingers cluthed her stronger. Kaylene couldn't move, she was petrified. Her once newly lit room turned into a dark one. And her walls turned into white-gooey liquid as the tar-like figure came closer, and closer. She started to hear a laugh from behind her as the white substance began to climb up her feet. It felt as if skeletons were clawing her feet, hungry for the taste of her blood. The laugh resumed every time the tar-like creature got closer. A laugh so wicked and terrifying as if it was a witch's . Kaylene dreaded as the tar-like creature moved closer, and finally was just centimeters away from her face . It stroked her hair slowly, gently, before strangling her. "H-h-he-elp..." Kaylene croaked, struggling to breathe. She tried to move but every single movement was stopped by a shot of pain in her arms and waist, where the white substance gave her a clawing feeling. Her eyes started to water, and fear lurked in her heart. She didn't know what to think, or whom to think of, the only thought that replayed on her mind was that she didn't want to die yet. The creature started to grin like a chesire cat, It's 'face' moved closer to her ear. She could feel it breathing next to her bloody ear.
"You... WILL be mine Kay....lene..." were the last thing it said before disappearing at the same time her brother Max went into her room. "NO FAIR! YOU GOT THE BIG ONE!" He shouted as he continued to observe the room. He was going to mope about it more when he saw his sister's face, full of horror. Max stopped on his tracks and his cheerful face turned into a scared one, the one he had when he was told that his dad died, And the one he had when his mother was still mourning. "Sis?" he cried, close to tears as he tugged her baggy shirt. Kaylene, on the other hand, was still shaking from her frightening experience. Her eyes were wide in horor, and she was having trouble breathing. But when she heard her brother's innocent cry she calmed down, well at least for the moment. Her brother Max, was crying now and if you didn't feel sorry for him you would've thought he was cute. "Hey... It's okay, I'm here" Kaylene said as she hugged him. "I thought you were, I-I.." Max stuttered wiping his tears as Kaylene broke the hug and gazed to his eyes. "shhh... It's okay, I was just... distracted, I mean my lil' hero was running around, why wouldn't I be?" Kaylene joked as she smirked, earning a grin from Max. He was always easy to cheer. No matter how hard he cried or moped, when ever his sister called him "lil'hero" his cheecky smile would always return. For he loved the nickname! It made him feel like a superhero, a savior, and most of all like his dad. Max was grinning like a chesire cat now, and oh did he look cute! Kaylene giggled at how cute her brother is. "There! that's my lil'hero!", Max started to run around, pretending to fly before leaving Kaylene.
Kaylene giggled once more as she observed her brother going down the starirs. But her expression changed quickly when she reembered what happened earlier. A chill went down her spine as she recalled the creature's 'face' close to her ear. She gulped, as she turned back to her room. But to her suprise everything was normal. Her boxes were on the floor, The room was bright again, and everything was, well the way it's supposed to be. Kaylene quickly went to a mirror to only see herself unharmed. No scratches, No blood, She looked exactly the same way she was this morning. Her mind began to wonder if it wasn't real, Like if it just was her imagination.
She did have a rather large amount of it. When she was little she always had a thing for play-prentend. She would always force her parents to play with her, Make them pretend to be the characters of her favourite story, 'Alice in Wonderland'. But as she grew older, so did her talent for art. Soon enough she started to stop playing and just draw whatever magical creature she could think of. Years past by and her passion for art increased, and so did her sketches, paintings and art suplies. She was never the one to party actually, so she stayed home a lot. Her friends tried to persuade her, but it never actually worked, so they just gave up anyway.
Kaylene laughed at the memory of her bestie, Alexis Cane. Alexis's father owned a moving-related business and was kind enough to help Kaylene's family free of charge. She smiled as she noted to text her friend later on. After all, she still had to clean the mess she have brought with her. And not to mention arrange her room.
But what she didn't notice when she was un-packing was the black rose that sitting on her window frame. It's jet black colour resembled the tattoo she had behind her ear. For she didn't know that when she creature went near her ear it was actually marking her. The creature was indeed presistant, and the symbol 'it' left on Kaylene was just the beginning.
