In the debt of night, with the possibility of morning on the rise, the island was completely silent. It was as if the world had faded away until it was just Jax, the girl, and the mounds of crystals that surrounded them.
But the reality was this: Jax was face-to-face with a possible enemy who claimed to have turned Nate, Ivan, and Sapphire all to crystal statues. Cooper was loosing a lot of blood, and most of their party was exhausted. They had been running on fumes for a while now, and if they didn't get a break, one of them was going to snap.
On the boat, Felix and Ash could only stare worriedly at the island where their boyfriend and friend had disappeared on his own with Felix's seagulls. Knowing that something had severed the connection between Felix and his animal, only darkened the worry he felt.
On the island, the girl was just a year or two older than Jax, and she towered over him by just a few inches. Her eyes were a mysterious colored purple, like Cooper's, but where his were weary and dark, hers were pale and dry with barely concealed anger. Her lips pulled into a sneer.
She wore a dress that was so wore the pink had faded to nearly white. But Jax's eyes were drawn straight to her arms: one was made entirely of crystal, but she moved it without much hindrance. The other was normal, like someone had split her in half and replaced half her body with the shining rock. It extended down to her legs, Jax noticed, and she was bare foot.
She was dangerous.
Probably crazy too, considering she had transformed several people into statues and didn't look too bothered by it. She hadn't hesitated then; but it seemed strange that she did now.
"Why are you on my island?" She demanded again.
She wouldn't give him much more time to think of an answer.
