On Saturday, Luna came to my house. My dad wasn't home so we decided to set around in the kitchen.
"Well, today's the big day." Luna said, setting down at the table. I sat across from her after pulling two soda's from the fridge.
"Are you excited?" I asked.
"I'm quaking in my boots here!" She said cheerfully and I laughed at her.
"What if we don't get a long?" I said worriedly. "What if none of us have nothing in common?"
"I'm sure we'll have at least one or two things in common with them." She replied, taking a sip of her Sprite. "And besides, even if we don't, maybe we can find some sort of common ground. You know, show them something they might like, like movies or music or something."
"I guess you're right." I said, tracing the rim of my soda can.
All of a sudden, there was a light knock on the door. Luna went wide eyed and nearly did a spit take.
"Oh God, I bet that's her!" She said in a hushed whisper.
I stood from my seat and slowly crossed the kitchen into the living room, Luna right behind me. I opened the door and saw Emery smiling back at me, her hands shoved in her forest green, abdomen length jacket.
"Good afternoon." She said, nodding her head once toward us.
"Hi!" Luna replied quickly.
"We're ready whenever you are." I said, smiling at her.
"Great. Let's go, then. Thank the stars it didn't rain today." She said with a laugh. She turned around and literally jumped over the four stairs of my porch without even taking her hands out of her pockets. Luna and I stood on the porch in shock.
"Alien." Luna looked over at me and mouthed. I smacked her on the shoulder.
We followed closely behind Emery as we turned down a gravel road that I had never even heard of before. It was lined by trees, but just like she told us, the scenery was beautiful. Even though the weather was rather gloomy, birds were still chirping, and the whole place gave off a rain forest type vibe. There were huge moss covered rocks on the sides of hills, small streams trickling down the mountain side.
"I hope you guys don't mind a bit of a walk. We live kind of far from town. Mother prefers her privacy." Emery said, turning around and looking at us. She didn't stop walking, so now she was walking backwards but somehow still managed to stay on course.
"No, we don't mind. It's really pretty out here." I said, glancing at a squirrel that ran across a fallen log.
"Oh, you've not even seen the best part yet. There's a huge waterfall not far from our house. I love to go there." She replied.
"I'm excited to see it!" Luna beamed.
Emery smiled and turned back towards the road. She was a few feet ahead of us so Luna and I engaged in our own conversation.
"This is a little suspicious..." Luna whispered.
"Yeah, we're getting pretty far out."
"Do you think she's an axe murderer?"
"Lord, no." I said. "She seems too nice."
"Yeah, that's what she wants us to think.." Luna replied.
I looked up to find that Emery was gone. I looked around to see if maybe she had walked up a driveway or something, and was already at her house, but there was no driveway and no sign of her.
