Hesitantly, Kate turned the knob wondering who it could be. Sam shouldn't be back until 11:35. She thought. She pushed the door open to see a little boy, 6 or so, in the doorway. "Is this Chuck E. Cheese?" He asked.
Kate giggled at the question, "No, silly. Who told you that?" The boy replied, "My older bruder." And Kate stuck her head out the door to see a group of teenagers peeking from around the corner of a wall. "Uh oh." She heard one of them faintly exclaim before the whole party rushed off. "Hey wait for me!" The boy said, racing after them.
Kate giggled at the situation. "That's a new one." Just as she shut the door, she got a text.

Kate read the text and frowned. She'd have to got to her Art class by then, but she still replied with an "Okay."

Kate glanced at the clock. 11:12. Though it's only been a few minutes, it felt like an eternity. Kate felt lonely. I know what to do. She thought.

A knock sounded at the door, Kate immediately got up to answer it. Jackie and Jace were waiting outside the door. Jackie standing tall in his tiger short-sleeved shirt. The tiger almost as furious as Jackie can be when his friends were threatened. Jace was wearing his dark grey jacket, again. Scrolling on his phone.
"Come on in!" Kate paused, "where's Raven?" She asked. "She's on her way." Replied Jackie. As if on cue, Raven came walking down the hall, bouncing as she was in a good mood.
"Hey guys! And gaaal!" She greeted. "Let's get this party started!" As she burst into the room. "Someone's in a good mood." Jackie noted, Jace just looked up the back down again. "Honey, I always am!" Raven threw herself on Kates bed. "Pfft- I don't know why this just came to my mind, but today I was hanging out with Alexander, Mia, and Henry, right. Now why'd Alex say, 'Is it just me or does this this milk carton look like a guy? A hot one...' It's just- wow." Jackie cracked into laughter. "Well, he's gay! Anything that looks like a boy would be hot to him!" Jackie chimed in after settling. There was a full second of silence, then the four (with the exception of Jace) burst into a melody of laughter.
================================
It had been hours since Jace, Jakie, and Raven left, and even longer since Sam left. Kate was cold as she laid in bed; Alone. She hugged a pillow but that still wouldn't help. She couldn't sleep. Where is Sam? Was all she could think. Kate texted her at least a thousand times. Kate grabbed her phone again, and scanned through her messages.

Kate put her phone back on the night stand

Kate put her phone back on the night stand. She listened to the crickets, the sound of a dog barking in the distance, the noise of other creatures roaming in the night. But her own quiet breathing and heartbeat seemed to drown them out.
