To say Sonya and Kai sped out of "Coffee Talk Cafe," would be an understatement. Kai put Carissa's address into google maps, while Sonya kept trying to call her. But much to her panic, Carissa wasn't answering her phone. If anything happened to Carissa----Sonya didn't want her mind to even go there. She should have followed Carissa. She should have stood up to Katrina. She should have probably told Chung. Right now, the possibilities of the past wouldn't help their present situation.
"It's the house at the end of this street." Kai pointed ahead. Carissa's house was close to The Queen Lace's mansion. As they approached the house, Sonya groaned in frustration. The gate to Carissa's house was locked. It could only be opened with a code or with someone buzzing them inside. Sonya started pressing the button manically and screaming Carissa's name. The gate didn't open and no one came outside. Kai took a couple of steps back. "Move out of the way." Sonya stepped to the side. Kai ran a short distance and then jumped onto the gate. Grabbing on, he began to climb. Sonya followed him. They were definitely breaking a law or two. They're reasons outweighed the reprecaussions. Chung would be pissed, but Sonya could handle that. What she couldn't handle was the ocean of guilt she would feel, if anything happened to Carissa.
Sonya and Kai ran up to the front door, banging and screaming Carissa's name, but there was no answer. Kai ran to the side of the house. He called Sonya over and there was a window open. On the sill, she saw a small streak of blood. Sonya's already panic-filled heart, could've shot out of her chest. Her adrenaline kicked in, and she went through the window with Kai following. The blood they saw on the window was still a little fresh. She was holding on to the fact that the murderer had just left the house. If there had been back-up, Sonya would have circled the house, because the culprit couldn't have gotten far with a wound. They entered the living room where Carissa let out a gasp of air before she went unconscious.
They ran to her side. Kai began calling for an ambulance.
"Carissa. CARISSA." Sonya checked her pulse. She could still feel a beat; it was slow, but Carissa could make it alive. They needed an oxygen tank. Sonya didn't understand. She was ready to collapse and lay right next to Carissa's barely breathing body. How could she have not known? She should've kept pressing Walden to look into Katrina Woods; to review the list. Why did she doubt herself?
Sonya was so wrapped up in her thoughts, she didn't even feel Kai shaking her. He was yelling her name. "Sonya, come on. We need to sit her up." Sonya woke up from her trance. She quickly got up to her feet and helped Kai move Carissa in a sitting position. They heard the sounds of sirens.
"Thank God." Kai let a deep sigh. His breathing had escalated and it seemed, he too may faint. Sonya needed to get a hold of herself. She needed to call Chung. It was ringing, but no one was picking up.
"Come on. Come on, Chung." On the eighth ring, Chung picked up. She was aggressive, but Sonya wasn't going to indulge with sarcasm.
"This better be important. There may be a new victim. Someone called for an ambulance."
"I know."
"What?" Sonya let out a shaky breath.
"I know. I'm at the house. Angelica Carissa Lopez is her name. She's the vic." Chung was silent. Sonya kenw Chung was probably thinking of ways to kill her. In a stern voice, Chung gave Sonya orders. "I'm five minutes away." With that, Chung hung up the phone.
Sonya looked out the window and saw the ambulance approaching the gate. She ran to the front door and buzzed them inside. The next few things happened so quickly, Sonya's wasn't exactly sure if any of this was real. Sure, Sonya witnessed numerous dead bodies, but she never talked to the victim before they almost died. Also, it wasn't as if Carissa was dead. She was close to it, but the ambulance made it time. Sonya was currently sitting on the steps waiting for Chung to finish giving officers instructions. Kai was pacing in front of her. She should probably send Kai back home. But she was afraid. It was a nice change to have someone there in a moment like this. Yet, she also wanted him to have normal teenage experiences, and finding a killing-lunatic wasn't normal.
