Otto was sitting in the corner looking defeated, less lethal. His face looked dazed. I walked over to him skeptically but crouched to his eye level, "Doctor Octavius."
I pulled off my mask to look at him face to face, "Peter Parker?"
"We need to shut it down," I said."I can't," he shook his head and looked down at his hands, then to the arms at his sides.
"Don't listen to them, they do not control you," I reminded him, the arms themselves looked defeated but I knew the kind of poison they had leaked into his mind.
"They won't let me," he said, meeting my eyes.
"Then you do it."
"It was my dream, Peter."
"Sometimes what we have to do, what's the best thing to do, is let go. Even if it's what we want the most," I said to him. It was something I had told myself more than a few times but not about a fusion reactor.
"You're right," he nodded slowly. He pushed himself up and walked past me, "you two need to get out of here," he looked to Sophie who was still hiding behind one of the beams.
"Thank you, Otto," I smiled at him before pulling my mask back on and running to Sophie.
"What happened?" she asked, her soft voice sounded broken.
"We gotta go," I grabbed her waist and shot a length of webbing out of the breaking down building. As I carried Sophie out to the dock where a hoard of police officers and ambulances were waiting, the building collapsed behind us. As the paramedics took Sophie from my arms I took off again to a rooftop where I could watch the light of the reactor slowly fade as it sunk to the bottom of the river along with its creator.
