"Carson baby you have to come to the party tonight everyone will be there plus you'll get to hang out with me because lately we haven't been doing so much of that." Jeremiah begged.
"I'm sorry Jere I can't I have so much to study for my a.m. classes tomorrow plus I have a dinner with my parents tonight that I cannot miss or they will freak out and I'm not looking for that." I explained
"Well just tell them that something really important came up that you couldn't turn away. I'm sure they'll understand."
"Look my parents haven't seen me since I moved to PA to go to this wonderful college and I'm sure they're dying to see me Jeremiah so I'm gonna pass on the party and we can hang out tomorrow." I said, grabbing my books and walking away towards the doors leading to the common area outside.
Knowing that I probably hurt Jeremiah's feelings over the fact that I couldn't come tonight was a little upsetting but it was the truth about what I had said. I would never lie to anyone about my life and I planned on keeping it that way. I walked towards my dorm entrance, passing everyone that I knew and made it to my door. I grabbed the key from my pocket, unlock the door and open it to find Shelly, my room mate, passed out on our couch from what I'm assuming another night of partying followed by spending the night at her boyfriends frat house. I don't understand the concept of getting wasted so much to the point of when you wake up the next day to ask the person next you what you had done that night like there's no point of drinking at all if you're not going to remember it.
I drop my bag on the floor next to my desk and place my books on top of the book shelf next to my desk, kicked off my shoes and flopped down on my bed. I try not to make a sound so I wouldn't wake up Shelly but I guess she has a thing for sensing people's presence when she leans up to look in my direction.
"Let me guess Jere asked you for like the tenth time this week to go to that damn party the Collin is throwing and you gave him that sad excuse of 'Oh my parents are in town and they are taking me to dinner tonight and oh I have lots of studying to do.'" She says, looking at me with a sly smile on her face telling me that she was right about everything.
"How'd you guess that so quickly?" I said sarcastically
"Because that's the same excuse that you give him all the time when he asks you about those parties and yet what gets me is that he falls for them every time like is his stupid or something?"
"Yes and yes but sadly I still like him. I don't know Shelly its just I can't go to those types of parties anymore, I'm just more focused on getting a music degree and getting out of here so that way I don't have to keeping hearing my parents rant about this place twenty four-seven about that music is never going to get me anywhere great in life."
"You know what you should do?"
"What"
"There's this place off campus that can probably get you some gigs on the week days to preform songs and they would pay you hourly. Gets you to do something instead of moping around in this room and hiding from Jeremiah all night long."
"What place are we talking about?" I asked, suspiciously.
"Amber and Moonlight on fifth street."
"You mean the place that has motorcycle gangs hanging around there I don't think so Shelly and anyways how do you know that place?"
"My cousin works there he's a bartender on nights everyday of the week trust me if I tell him about how talented you are at singing I'm sure he'll talk to his boss about hiring you for night shifts as for the entertainment."
"If it beats getting Jere off my back I guess I'll do it plus it wouldn't hurt to have a little extra cash in my pocket every week."
"Great I'll give him a call right now."
She stands up from the couch and walks out the door on the phone with her cousin letting him know to count me on the entertainment part of this bar that would be my future work occupation. I mean I'm super excited that Shelly wouldn't be the only on to hear me sing but I'm a little nervous that I'm singing in front of big scary biker guys and girls but then again that place was know to only allow men bikers in and there not that many girl biker gangs in PA maybe because that men think that girls aren't capable of that tough stuff they do but I couldn't care less about that I'm just more focused on getting a somewhat career started.
"Alright I'll tell her, love you bye. Okay so he said that you're in but his boss wants to see you tomorrow at 5 pm to see what you got."
"Thank you so much Shel I owe you one big time."
"Don't sweat it as long as I get to see you happy that's all it counts."
