Lyla and Autumn had been texting back and forth non-stop since Lyla got home, yet Autumn still wouldn't tell her what was going on. The next day was "the first day back" and Lyla was dying to know what went down while she was away. Autumn had told Lyla they would talk in homeroom but Elliott always seemed to be hanging around and Autumn clamped up. At lunch, Autumn attempted to tell Lyla again but it never seemed like a good time. By the time science class rolled around Lyla was getting irritated.

"The whole freaking school seems to know what happened while I was gone," Lyla said approaching Autumn who was talking to Elliott and her friend Quinn

"I know, I know we really need to ta-" Autumn started

"GIRLS SIT DOWN YOU'LL HAVE PLENTY OF TIME TO GOSSIP AFTER CLASS" yelled the substitute harshly as the bell rang.

"Sorry, text you later" whispered Autumn.

All throughout class that day Lyla felt like she was being stared at and whispered about. It was the worst because she had no idea why. After school, Lyla got this text...

hey. It was from Autumn

Hey. Lyla responded

Autumn: So about what happened at the party/ before and after.

Lyla: yeah...

Autumn: I honestly still can't process it. So much went down. Whatever you do just let me finish okay?

Lyla: okay.

Autumn: So. First off you know that guy that's been hitting on you for a while now and asked you out a few times?

Lyla: Yeah...

Autumn: And you know how you said no because he was dating someone else. right?

Lyla: Yeah of course.

Autumn:  Well, he broke up with his girlfriend, then started asking around for your number... that's not the worst of it though. After no one would give him your number, he sat in the corner for a while. Everyone thought he was sulking. No. Instead, he was writing a letter to me asking me out saying how beautiful I was and how he has liked me for forever.

Lyla: Wait what??? That's so messed up. Is that it?

Autumn: I know right. And no that's not it there's more... much more

Lyla:  Oh geez, you are aware its a school night and I have homework lol.

Autumn:  I know I'll try and tell you it all. So, we also were showing our "special talents"  at the party and I showed everyone how I have a double jointed wrist. Apparently, Walker was watching and was very interested because he was constantly touching my hand and he even went as far as tasering me in the sides. It was super weird. Oh yeah and on top of that people started calling us "watumn" and  "alker".

Autumn:  Omg, I've also noticed that it's almost like Elliott trusts only you. I asked him about you and science and stuff and he would give me basic answers. Plus he would always mention you in homeroom, lunch, and science when you were gone. It was so cute.

Lyla:  That's because we are friends. I'm sure he was just being a good friend and I'm sure he doesn't only trust me. And people are right you and Walker are so cute together.

Autumn: yeah. And why would you say me and Walker should up together... lol

Lyla: gtg. Thanks for catching me up and I'm sure everything will work out for the better.

After their conversation, Lyla felt kind of relieved but super confused at the same time. Only three weeks until holiday break. Let the countdown begin. School the next day felt weird,  Lyla kept replaying what Autumn said in her head. Elliott doesn't just trust me, right? He has lots of friends and just because he talks to me doesn't mean I'm the only one he trusts. She thought. The following days were a struggle, loads of work, long days and the mess of thoughts floating around everyone's heads. As the holidays were drawing nearer Lyla noticed how distanced Elliott was, he had not texted in days and they scarcely talked. It was almost like he was avoiding her. She eventually brushed it off and texted him asking whats up. He replied "nothing just busy." Only 5 more days until break she thought to herself. The next five days were torture.

...

It was finally break, they had a whole 10 days off away from the craziness of school. Lyla didn't talk to Elliott at all over the break other than a quick "Merry Christmas" text (no reply). She did, however, keep in touch with Autumn. Before they knew it it was New Year's Eve, new year, a fresh start, Lyla was beyond happy that the year was ending. She along with all of her friends and classmates approached 2017 with open arms.
