Hey! This chapter took me a bit of time, but I have a good plan for the next one! I introduced another one of my best friends in this chapter! Next chapter has another new character too! I'm so excited!
Chapter 3
“Do it, Ash,” Tammy demands through a mouthful of fresh cheese pizza. Ignoring her nagging that has been going on ever since we got in the car after leaving the mall, I continue to flip through the channels on TV, looking for something decent for us to watch.
“Fine,” Tammy scoffs, realizing that I am not acknowledging her nor going to text/call him…yet. She wipes her empty hands off on her red shorts and stands up from the little table we are currently eating at in my newly-renovated room. My skin tingles slightly as she sends me a mischievous grin; Tammy’s ideas never fail to frighten the living daylights out of me.
She saunters out of my red room, which ironically matches the color of her vibrant shorts, leaving me alone to wallow in my thoughts. It’s quite the habit that I am left wondering what runs through the mind of my best friend. Even after our long time as being great friends, I still can never manage to make a correct guess about what she’s up to next, meaning she never fails to surprise me.
With a deep sigh, I stand up myself, following Tammy out of the room like a lost puppy. I drag my feet across the hardwood flooring as I enter the hallway and make my way into the dimly lit living room. My grandpa sits in our leather recliner, fast asleep with the television blaring about some recent discoveries in a long-closed murder case. The brightness of the flat screens causes me to squint my eyes as I scurry over to shut it off.
“Hi Dalton,” I hear Tammy giggle from somewhere behind me. I whip around, noticing her looming over the dining room table where I had left my phone earlier. I dart towards her, my footfalls echoing through the silent house as I storm up to her. Tammy’s head whirls around, her brown eyes nearly bugging out of her head as she watches me lunge for my cell phone.
I hear a faint mumbling on the other end of the line, surely Dalton greeting Tammy with a bit of confusion. The one fault about my phone: everyone can hear my conversations since my speaker is unfortunately quite loud.
“No, this is Tammy,” she whispers, as if being quiet is going to help her now. She scampers into the kitchen to escape my steaming self, her body facing forward, but her eyes never leaving me, just to be careful. “Ashlyn wanted to call you, but she was too scared to do it herself. So I volunteered to do it for her,” she beams, a proud smile etched across her face, though it won’t last for long.
“Tamara May!” I shout, my tone threatening, warning her to stop before it’s too late. I stomp after her as she dashes through the hallway, making a complete loop around my house, ending up back in the living room.
“That’s j-just Ash,” she stutters, now backing up towards our leather couch. “She’s just super excited! Anyways, she wanted to hang out with you!” she squeals, obviously showcasing my liking towards Dalton and confirming that I really am super desperate to get to know him. I’m not denying that I would die to become good friends with him, but I just don’t want him to know that.
“Tammy,” I announce, reaching my hand out to signal for her to give me the phone. Step by step, we inch closer to the couch until her calves are right up against it. I stop, indicating that I won’t do anything as long as she hands me my phone.
“Well…hang out with us anyways…” Her eyes flick up from the ground to meet mine, looking innocent, which is ironic because that is the exact thing she is not.
“Tammy!” I holler at her, shock and a bit of embarrassment leaking out of my mouth in solely saying her name. She pulls the phone away from her double-pierced ear and presses a button on the touch screen, what I’m guessing to put him on speaker.
