[20 August, 2008]
Anna was internally screaming as the man shoved her into the red car. She kicked and tried to shove him away but it was useless to her when the doors all locked and were leaving her house, her friends and her family behind.
"Kid," the one who put her in the car started, "calm down, it was only a prank. We'll round the town and circle back and you'll be home in no time."
Although she heard what he had said she still wasn't able to calm down. She brushed her back against the car door and pulled her knees to her chest and hugged herself tightly to try to go in a state of calmness.
The girl driving the car pulled into a gas station and the boy in the passenger seat jumped out and ran inside. A few minutes later he came out with two bags and a pair of silver and black striped sunglasses. He hopped back into the vehicle and threw a bag to the backseat, "Thomas, open it up. I got a surprise for the two of you."
Thomas sighed and set the bag in his lap and pulled out the item, "You got me a juice box?"
The male up front turned to face him just as the female started to back out of the store. He shook his head, "no, that was for the kid. I got you the other thing!"
Thomas noticed the excitement in his voice and eagerly dig his hands through the plastic bag until he pulled out a newspaper.
"Seriously!?" Thomas slapped the back of the guys head, "How is this a gift for me, Tyler?"
The brown haired male tapped his fingers against the dashboard just above where his knees touched, "Go to page six."
Thomas did exactly as Tyler said and read through the recent news article of the abduction of Nick Martin, a twelve year old redhead that was taken from his home almost two weeks ago.
"No freaking way!" Thomas clapped his hands together and smiled brightly.
"What is it?" The girl wondered.
Thomas licked his pink lips and read the sentence out loud for the driver to hear, "'The parents of Nick Martin announced they would pay thousands of dollars to the person who found their son alive.' Do you know what this means?"
"That we need to find that kid?" Lisa announced as she turned the wheel to go down another street.
Thomas nodded, "That and we can start our own . . . business."
"And what would that be?" She inquired.
"We can kidnap children from rich families until they announce that they will give money for their child's return. It absolute genius." Thomas smiled again.
Lisa nodded, "It would give us enough money to get into our dream colleges. What do you think Tyler?"
Tyler stayed quiet as he thought the plan through. He thought back to Anna, who was still sobbing in the backseat and murmuring how she wanted to go home. He thought about the money and then he made his decision, "I'm in!"
The young blonde haired, brown eyed girl closed her eyes and prayed to God that she would be found soon so she could go home and celebrate the rest of her birthday and open her presents. So she could see the look on everyone's face as she sang her new favorite song. So she could say 'I love you' one last time because she knows she might never have the chance again.
The three recently graduated teenagers drove to a shared house that was twenty minutes away from the town of Rostin, Maine.
Lisa put the car in park and took the keys out, "Okay, Tyler and Thomas please figure out an arrangement for the kid. I'll go the the barn and get some chains so she can't escape."
"What about her?" Thomas asked referring to the seven year old.
Tyler shrugged, "Just leave her in the car. She won't die."
Thomas shrugged his shoulders and followed his friend into the house as Lisa locked the car and jogged to the barn looking for equipment to secure the place.
Anna got out of her crying position and began to pound on the windows. She then saw movement from inside and decided to kick at them with her feet by laying on her back, she could feel the heat already getting to her, making her feel dizzy. But she kept to her plan by continuing to kick on the glass that wouldn't budge, "Please! God, please! If you care one bit for me, you'd let me escape. Please!
"I don't care about my birthday anymore! I don't need the presents or the cake or the ice cream ever again. I just want mommy and daddy, I want Adam and Alec, I want my family, please! I'll do anything . . ." She cried out as she shoved one last time causing the glass to break.
She felt a relief wash over her and crawled out through the window, some glass cutting away the pale skin on her arms and legs allowing blood to draw through, but she didn't care, she knew this was a sign from God. A sign saying she was on the right track to get back to her worried family.
She ran and ran and ran until her youthful lungs ran out of air. She stopped at the end of the long driveway and hunched her back and placed her warm hands on her shaky legs. Her breath hitched in her throat when a strong grip took a hold of her shoulder.
Anna fell to the ground and screamed in bloody murder at the sight of Thomas who had an angry grin on his vampire like face. He scooped her into his arms and walked to the house, when they arrived at the front entrance Lisa opened the door and said, "Welcome home, little girl!"
