Phil
Phil smiled as his friend Conor bumped his shoulder slightly and all he felt was happiness. It made Phil happy when someone else felt happy. It was one of the joys of being an Empath.
Phil remembered when he first found out. He was around 8 and he'd given his brother a present. Phil couldn't really remember what it was but it made Martian so happy, he ran and jumped into Phil's arms. Phil just felt the happiness pour out of his brother like water in a flood. He ran and told his mom and she took him to a specialist. The specialist declared Phil and Empath when Phil could just brush his hand and tell he was stressed about his new baby at home.
"Come on Phil, you agree with me don't you?" His other friend Joe whined, cutting into his thoughts. Phil looked at him blankly. Joe groaned in annoyance.
"I would totally beat Conor in a race, right?" He told Phil. Phil just rolled his eyes.
"You guys are so immature," Phil huffed. Conor smiled at this.
"Ha, see he is totally avoiding answering your question! He thinks I'm going to win," Conor snickered. Phil could practically feel the cockiness radiating off of him without touching him.
"He never said that, Conor!" Joe said pointedly. Phil just snorted at this.
"I think both of you will fall halfway through the race because you'll be too busy worrying about where the other is," Phil teased. Conor raised an eyebrow at him.
"That sounds like a challenge, doesn't it, Joe?" He said. Joe nodded, smiling. Phil had the urge to yell at them to shut up and quit being childish.
"How about we race after school today? How about from Miller Street to Phil's house?" Conor said. Joe nodded.
"While we walk to Miller Street it'll give Phil plenty of time to walk home so he can declare who the winner is!" Joe declared. Conor rolled his eyes.
"Or Phil can drive us there and start the race. That way he can follow us to make sure no one cheats," Conor said in an obvious tone. Phil nodded to this. At least if one of them did fall he could help them.
His last two classes, Math and History, passed unbearably slow.
Instead of paying attention, Phil doodled in his notebook for both classes. He knew pretty much everything they were talking about in History and Math was something he could ask Jack, Conor's brother, about seeing as they were in the same class.
He could see the Maynard brothers walking towards him out of the corner of his eye as he shut his locker.
"So, Conor tells me he's racing Joe today and you're starting it!" Jack exclaimed when he was within earshot. Phil just rolled his eyes.
"They had a whole argument about it this morning. I thought I'd make sure they don't die," Phil said, emphasizing the word die. Jack just grinned at him.
"You worry to much mate, they'll only break a few bones, "Jack responded. Phil just rolled his eyes and began walking towards his car.
Why was he even friends with these people? Oh yeah, because they'd probably die without Phil and he without them. They were always challenging each other to stupid dares and Phil was always there to make sure they don't die.
Phil, on the other hand, was extremely clumsy. If it wasn't for his friends constantly catching him, he was sure he'd have some type of permanent brain damage.
Joe was already waiting for him at his car, leaning on the hood. "Oi, get off my car," Phil scolded him. His car wasn't particularly amazing or fancy but he still took very good care of it.
Joe immediately jumped off smirking slightly. "Just get in the car," Phil said irritated. Soon, Conor joined them and it was off to Miller Street.
Dan
Dan watched as three boys jumped out of little Honda laughing. Dan knew he should feel happy for them. Or envy them. Or his heart should've warmed a bit when he saw them.
But, he didn't. He felt nothing. Absolutely nothing. He had let the nothingness eat him up until he was gone.
He watched and the light brown haired boy and the boy with blonde highlights line up. The other boy with a jet black fringe, much like his own dark brown fringe, just rolled his eyes.
Normally, Dan would have laughed at this. But he just couldn't. He continued walking home. He continued walking to hell.
His parents didn't understand this nothingness. They didn't understand why he felt nothing. All they understood was fighting and sex. Dan rolled his eyes just at the thought.
Dan kicked a stone. The one thing he knew was he hated himself. Whether or not he could feel it, it was there. Eating away at him. Feeding the darkness.
Dan heard rapid footsteps rushing towards him and before he could do anything he hit the ground. He didn't feel it. He could tell his elbow was bleeding, but he couldn't feel it.
He watched the darker haired boy he saw earlier jump out if the car and rush to him. "I'm so sorry, my mates can be very rude sometimes, " he said as he reached down to pull Dan off the ground.
"I'm Phil, " he - Phil said. When Phil's hand made contact with Dan's, he froze. Dan raised an eyebrow at him.
"You don't feel anything?" Phil questioned. This only made Dan more confused. Then, it clicked. Of course. Phil was an Empath. Most mundanes didn't have any powers. The ones who did usually had very lame powers. Telepathy was very rare.
Dan untangled his hand from Phil's. Phil had a very sad expression on his face.
"Are you okay?" Phil asked him and Dan knew it wasn't because he fell.
"Don't worry about my feelings, nobody else ever has."

So, did you like it?
I really tried to make the banter between Joe and Conor kinda entertaining, I guess.
I know that ended on kind of a sad note. I probably should put trigger warnings on this book. Well, we'll see if I remember lol.
I honestly don't know if the Maynard's and Dan and Phil are friends in real life but they're my second favourite YouTubers so I couldn't resist having them in my book.
So I've seen a few authors do this where they set a vote and comment goal in their books. idc about that stuff but I thought I'd do anyway to help motivate me to write more. So how about 10 votes and 5 comments for the next chapter? That's not super high for the start I guess lol.
Please keep in mind I'm from America so I don't know all the ways British people talk. I really do try to write like the rest of the world and using u's and stuff in the word's the American English Language doesn't have u's and things.
Example: Americans Write colors and me and the rest of the world writes colours.
But bear in mind I will slip up a couple times so chill.
My Instagram is @phanherondale and I'll be posting sneak peeks and stuff on their so you should go follow it!
Okay, onward!
