Elias Graham Vita is ordinary. Ordinary grades, ordinary looks, ordinary family. But he wasn't as ordinary as he was comfortable with. Elias can see what they all couldn't see—and no, he is not talking about ghosts.

Elias can see danger.

..okay that sounded stupid, but it's true. He can see the levels of danger of anyone with a single eye contact. A newborn would be 0 or 1, an ordinary person would be approximately 4-5, and criminals such as murderers, rapists, and all would be 6-7.

The numbers that he sees just appears on top of each person no matter if he only saw them on tv or in real life. His group of friends range from 4s to 5s, his grandfather is a 4, and his baby cousin is 1. He couldn't see his own level though, he tried by looking into a mirror or a photograph of himself, and yet nothing. He guessed he must be around 5 like his friends.

But yes, otherwise the whole “i can see how dangerous you really are” ordeal, Elias was ordinary.

Elias scrambled to gather all his binders and laptop back into his hands again, struggling to balance all that while he walked towards his next lecture.

He was too busy gathering his shit together when it happened.

It was like a quick blur, but he's sure of what he saw. He knew what he saw. Elias dropped his belongings—snapped out of it just enough to catch his laptop—and snapped his head around. Whoever that was, whatever that was, he needed to know, so he can stay away or get them arrested. Because…because…

The man was a 10. A freaking 10.

After realising all the tens of pairs of eyes staring at him, Elias apologized quickly and gathered his stuff back into his arms and jogged to his next lecture. But he couldn't focus.

‘who is this guy anyway?’, he thought, feeling a chill run down his back. Curse his curious nature, but he needs to know. And he'd do whatever the fuck it'll take—

“Mister Vita, I'd prefer for you to focus in my class” Madame Briar said in her odd french-american accent. Shit, he thought, I've been caught.

“sorry Madame, it won't happen again” he said, giving the level 5 teacher an apologetic smile.

He got to finish this, and quick too. But first, he'll need to find the motherfucker first.

Elias didn't think finding “Mister Ten” would go this easily.

He was, once again, struggling to balance his belongings while simultaneously trying to stuff some of it into his bag when a looming figure took his mount of files out of his hand, and Elias did whatever he could to act normal because it's the maniac with the 10.

“Maniac” didn't seem as psychotic as Elias had prepared himself for, he has a nice smile even.

“Hi, sorry for startling you, but you look like a little rabbit trying to balance mountains of food,” Mister Maniac (or supposed to be Maniac) said with a light chuckle “i saw you this morning too, and i would've helped you earlier if i wasn't running late to my own lecture”

“...10” Elias unconsciously slipped up that detail, and that gained the other’s attention quickly

“pardon?”

“oh, uh, i gotta go to my last lecture in 10 minutes” Elias said, giving the other a nervous grin

“ah, sorry to keep you on” Sir Maniac said, “how about i walk you to your lecture hall?”

“that'll be great,” good Elias, now ask his name “um, what's your name again?”

“Artem, Artem Mors” Artem said before continuing his idle chatter. ‘well,’ Elias thought ‘at least we have a name now’.
